Things are escalating quickly, (sometimes I hate being so right). I wonder if any of those who were so happy about this "partnership" are able to see what a disaster this is, and it's just getting started.
Bonfire of the narcissists! ?

Welcome to reason number 15,000,063 why we don’t engage in hero worship.

I voted republican, but because of the $250 fee if it stays and passes, i will not in the midterms ,You're not gonna fk me over and get away with it, there will be repercussions for it. I fully understand taxes need to be received to pay for the roads, but not at 3x the gas average. $250 is way too high and should be around $90-95 . Schumer already forced them to remove the $20 gas reg fee, if the EV tax and that's what it is, is not removed, i won't vote at all in the midterms just out of spite. And you know, vance will lose my vote in 2028 if it still is in there by then. The $250 fee seems like it's being overlooked out of everything. It should not be $250 + state reg fees.
Agree!

Without talking about the actual politics. I wanna hear from all of the people before who couldn’t understand why it was not a good idea for our CEO to embroil himself in politics. Because there were a good number of you who didn’t understand that before today. I wonder if we have any converts that understand now?

When we never get unsupervised FSD, or if we do, we’re not allowed to use it on public roads— this will be why.

As I’ve said multiple times, some people don’t believe that fat meat is greasy. Well, folks— it is.

Remember when I said people from my hometown ain’t buying no fruity electric truck because Elon Musk suddenly converted? Yeah, this is why.

Cybertruck deserves better than this bullshit. But, here we are.

We have the exact government that we deserve. I hope we’ll learn to do better.

....treading a fine line between reality of economic situation versus politics....

We all knew the Trump-Musk "divorce" was going to be painful. Almost 15% drop to $TSLA today. Trump has bad economic understanding if he thinks what he said about the scale ("billions and billions") and how to "save" money by eliminating these contracts. What, pay Russia 2x for launches to ISS? Crazy times.

Well, I'm off to Tesla Aurora service center 6/6 to lookie-lou at some Cybertrucks and possibly trade in my 2023 Model Y for a new Model Y plus turn my Day 1 Cybertruck reservation into a purchase.

Trump's new tax bill passed the house and below are it's impacts on EVs:

  • Kills the $7,500 tax credit for EV manufacturers that have sold more than 200k EVs (Tesla) at the end of 2025
  • Strips many solar and battery credits Tesla uses
  • Kills Commercial Clean Credit
  • Imposes $250 a year federal tax per EV to make up for loss of fuel tax
    • This would be in addition to your state tax (South Carolina has $250 per year)

Something to keep an eye on as it heads to the Senate.
All FS CT owners: “What $7,500 tax credit?” ?

Why is everyone so concerned about charging for usage? By that logic, high MPG cars should pay extra, because they buy less fuel per mile (and therefore pay less tax).

What about all the tax paid by users of generators, lawnmowers, etc., should they get a refund?

Heck, Suburbans that get 4MPG should get a discount
In 35 states, high MPG cars DO pay an extra annual tax because they effectively underpay road taxes. For example the deal in VIrginia is this:

“In Virginia, owners of efficient vehicles (those with a combined fuel economy of 25 MPG or greater) are required to pay a Highway Use Fee (HUF) on top of standard registration fees. This fee is designed to offset the revenue lost from not collecting gas taxes from electric vehicles. The HUF is calculated as 85% of the difference between the taxes paid by a vehicle with a 23.7 MPG rating and a vehicle using the manufacturer's combined MPG rating. The current HUF for electric vehicles is approximately $116.49 annually, though it can fluctuate.”

This is only fair
