It's not complicated enough to need an article. Maybe I can clarify:Is there an article I can read to really understand what the change is? I have a feeling most of the changes won’t affect me, I use Apple Music and YouTube Premium (includes YouTube music).
edit. I am trying to avoid paying for services I do not need, despite the low cost.
Premium Connectivity is a $10/month or $100 annually feature (free on select vehicles). You are paying for the ability to stream high bandwidth data like satellite maps, music and video over the 4G cellular network connection built into the car. Without Premium Connectivity you can still stream data over the cars 4G connection, things like plain maps, software updates, and a whole host of other things that are not bandwidth intensive.
Even with Premium Connectivity, you might have to subscribe to Netflix, Hulu, etc, depending upon the content you want to stream into the vehicle but there is also streaming video you don't have to have a paid third-party subscription for, like YouTube, etc. Premium Connectivity is required to stream all of these services.
I have a Foundation Series, therefore I have free Premium Connectivity and don't have to pay for it. But I still subscribe to Tidal music service because they have high-fidelity music I can download to the car over wifi. I can only stream their regular fidelity content over the cellular network. However, even if I didn't have Premium Connectivity, I could still use my Tidal music account to download hifi playlists to the car over wifi, for playback when I'm driving.
I have a 2018 Performance Model 3 that I have to subscribe to Premium Connectivity if I want that. I pay the $100/year mostly for the satellite maps which have helped me countless times (by showing real world features unavailable on a non-satellite map). It's cool that I can also stream theatre like quality movies from my Netflix account, but I rarely use that feature, it's the satellite maps that make the $100/year worth it.
The only recent change I'm aware of is that all Tesla previously came with a free Slacker music basic account. That was Microsoft's music service. Tesla no longer come with a Slacker account. Most people were not a big fan of the Slacker service anyway. I found it good enough, but with the quality of the sound system in the Cybertruck, I want hifi source material which I could never get from any free or basic music streaming service, just the regular low-bitrate MP3s. So, I had a Tidal subscription before Tesla ended the built-in free Slacker account.
