Look for it in messages in your Tesla app. Mine came on 11-27-24. I love it!

It's at a much lower frequency, and it is easier for people to detect the direction you are coming when they hear it. This is one reason many fire trucks, rescue trucks, and police cars switched to the lower frequency sounds.

Some online research shows:

Lower-frequency sounds (e.g., 180-400 Hz) travel further and penetrate obstacles like buildings, vehicles, and barriers more effectively than higher-frequency sounds. This helps in urban environments where sirens need to be heard around corners and through closed car windows.

Studies have shown that lower-frequency sirens, such as the "Howler" or "Rumbler" systems, create vibrations that can be felt by drivers rather than just heard. This helps people inside soundproofed or loud vehicles (such as those with heavy insulation or loud music) detect the presence of an emergency vehicle more effectively.

Research suggests that drivers may become desensitized to traditional high-pitched sirens due to frequent exposure. Low-frequency sirens provide a different auditory signature that catches attention more effectively.

I think Tesla wanted a unique sound compared to other passenger truck manufacturers but was also influenced by the science behind lower vs. higher frequencies.

I rarely use mine, but when I do, it stops whoever the offending driver is. 90% of the time here in South Florida, it is an "all about me" driver merging into my lane from the emergency lane, which they are using illegally in the first place to bypass traffic since their time is always more valuable than everyone else's.

When I received my truck a week ago it came with it already, I didn't have the option but I like it and sounds good.

I took delivery on 11/6, and at this time everyone was talking about this decision they were having to make with the horn. Lots of discussions about whether or not folks were going to do it and it made me wonder what I was going to do when I got the message.

I waited, and waited and never got the message. Was funny cuz I thought about it quite a bit while just sitting in traffic or something. Anyways after about 2,000 miles or so, I think a literal lightbulb lit up over my head while I was cleaning out the truck and I honked my horn while sitting in my driveway. Then a huge grin grew on my face, because this horn is awesome. Glad I didn’t have to make the decision, because I was very on the fence.

OP have you confirmed you don’t already have it? I hadn’t realized I’d not honked my horn yet maybe you haven’t either?

Two things:

1) When we picked up out CT in September, we of course 'tested' everything and when we honked the horn, people were REALLY surprised!! The guy helping us with the final paperwork and such really freaked out and others from inside came out to see where the 'fire truck' was! hehe... Ours was the first in the area to get that horn sound and we love it!

2) I agree about being desensitized to the 'regular' siren sounds... I think because of TV and the area we live (near two major intersections) I don't even pay attention to a 'regular' type of siren anymore... I really don't seem to NOTICE even... But Firetrucks and DIFFERENT sounding sirens now stick out much better...

Thanks for writing my comment for me. Because this is exactly my story from being on the fence about a horn I already had all the way down to the exact day I took delivery of the truck lol

Here is how to push the update manually.

Here is the Link replace it with your Vin and RN order number ( can be found on your tesla account). put it in the browser and load it and it will upgrade. Only takes a second.

https://www.tesla.com/vehicle-update/upgrades?vin=7G2CEHED4RA015914&optionCode=$CTH1&rn=RN122333886

If you bought your cybertruck used call tesla custumer service they will give you the original RN number, just tell them what is the rn number for my vin, and they will give it to you.

Good Luck.

Haha... you are right. When I use it, you should see the fear looks I get from people. I was at a red light that turned green and the woman was just sitting there for 10-15 seconds (probably on her phone). When I hit the horn, she gave a look like she just shit her pants. After she noticed it was just a CT, she grimaced. ?

I didn't update mine yet because I can't go back if I don't like it. I don't understand why they couldn't push an option to switch back and forth, I mean it's software, right? I have a "Virgin Horn"!

The reason is that there is no way of knowing (on the software side), which CTs have a physical horn and which do not. There's no hardware communicating whether or not the horn is installed. They could in theory provide access via software using RN/VIN numbers but doesn't seem like they care enough to go through the effort.

I think i asked before, how does this special edition “ horn” sound like, vs standard CT ? I used my horn for 5he first time last week and it didn’t sound like any normal horn I ever had!
