I feel this controversial yoke move (no stocks) is to get the Model S owners to help "train" the neural net in PDRN prediction - preparing for feature complete FSD.
Like how FSD records anytime the driver intervenes, the same could happen when the driver selects a different gear from the main display.
Just a thought.

I think we will need to retrain our brains that the steering wheel is a joystick, it shows intent, not an exact, fixed ratio of movement input to output.

Speed could also be used to vary the ratio, at slower speeds, small steering results in large movement. At high speeds, large steering results in small movement.

There could also be a proportional to it, at first the steering might result in little change, but as you get further along (say to 90 degrees), then the same degree of turning the yoke results in larger and larger change in the direction the wheels are pointing...

(hope that explanation makes sense)

...I learned to ride a motorcycle before a car...
...on a motorcycle, your controls are at your thumbs...
...click the switch left to indicate left...
...click it right to indicate right, it's simple...
...in a car, reach behind a wheel to hit a stick up to indicate left...
...that's a ridiculous system...
...people having gotten used to it is not the same as it making sense...
...bring on the yoke...
