Tesla building 20-30 sounds unlikely, but it’s possible.

I’ve heard about Cybertruck Alaska winter testing previously so that would not surprise me at all. Alaska is very big and there are a lot of airfields and gravel roads out there where the chances of a random person spotting the truck is pretty unlikely. Likewise the Middle East. Though I’m not sure why they would do testing in the Middle East myself. There are a fair number of places in the US where they could test for hot conditions.

After seeing the semi and it’s final setup, I kind of wonder if the tri motor won’t ship first as well. Having a truck with a super efficient drive train that gets the best range I think would make a huge splash.

Not really a prediction, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Particularly if the quad is going to be their “Plaid”/ max performance truck. The market is not ideal for a top dollar supertruck at the moment. A more practical entrant might make more sense Today.
That's kind of what was being said... "the answer was revealed in the Semi event, that's all I can tell you, I have already said too much"

Actually, the more I think about it, the more likely I think the 20-30 trucks is. Your source is more or less just confirming this rumor.

Tesla said Musk was getting a beta truck in the earnings call. We’ve seen what could very well be nearly completed beta trucks. Maybe there is a small cadre of trucks under tarps in Fremont and these 2 partly built ones made it to Texas to start testing the assembly line.

I spoke with someone working at Kato road and he or she said they have built greater then 20 trucks(he or she is directly involved). They are currently testing in Alaska and the middle east. What I don't understand, if he or she is telling the truth, how is it possible we have not seen more photo/videos? He or she also insisted that the tri-motor was more likely to be the production truck that they will initially produce. Either way they were very convincing that the quad motor may not be the first truck produced.

Truth be told I don't think worker bees or engineers know the whole plan. They might know more about prototype features and testing, but likely just as much in the dark about production as any of us.
As far as not being seen while in testing in Alaska, that is probably because Tesla uses a military base for winter testing. Only certain people allowed in and likely video/pictures not allowed. See this for reference

I'm sure they could do the same in the middle east, where they could test at a military base. Not sure why they would need to test there though, since there are very hot areas in the US that they could also test at.

Edit: Tesla also just released this video on Youtube, but this was in the Summer and no Cybertruck there

This one is actually a better video of where Tesla tests in Alaska

That doesn't mean they aren't testing Cybertrucks, obviously. It just means Tesla put out a video of vehicles testing in New Zealand, and didn't include prototypes testing.

On the Number of Semi trucks currently I saw this article in Electrek, which quotes the PepsiCo Vice President Mike O’Connell.

O’Connell confirmed that PepsiCo is currently deploying 36 Tesla Semis: 15 in Modesto and 21 in Sacramento. The company expects to take delivery of the 100 Tesla Semi trucks it ordered by the end of 2023.

Great

Since you have a contact, I looked at your previous posts to see if I had missed any tidbits.

You said in your first post in July this year
" My guess is $125k before FSD and options. I seriously think that we are not going to see a cybertruck under 100k of any flavor, possibly ever, but certainly for the next 3 years."

Surely you would have had to mention this to your Tesla insider friend. What did he /she think of that ?

I ain’t saying this happened. I ain’t saying it didn’t happen.

But if they made 30 Cybertrucks what makes you think any of us would see them until they want us to see them?

Tesla has been quite good at op-sec on the Cybertruck and stashing 30 beta trucks in the millions on acres of factory space they do have would be trivial. They play this game of corporate peek-a-boo quite well.

I suspect at least a few beta trucks were built or are in progress. Whether it’s 30 or whether any of them are completed is anyone’s guess.

They certainly weren't 'delivered' tho.

-Crissa
Depends on your definition of “Delivered“ ;)

GM was strutting their stuff at the end of 2021 saying they’d delivered their first Hummer when there were fewer than 30 in existence.

They delivered it on time. They are losing large sums of money doing it. It is arguably parallel to the earliest Model Ss. So long as you respect the limits of the truck you are ok.
Wait a minute...you can't have your cake and eat it too. That means if you're going to claim the Lightning timeframe is parallel to the earliest Model S, then you can't simultaneously claim they delivered it on time. Ford had an electric F-150 at the 2008 SEMA autoshow:

Of course a no compromises, tuner full-size truck might not be so popular if gas returns to $4 a gallon, but not to worry -- Ford has that scenario covered with the new Hi-Pa Drive F-150. Featuring a unique alternative powertrain, the stock truck's engine, drivetrain, and transmission have all been replaced by four in-wheel electric motors that together reportedly deliver over 600 hp and more torque than the V-8 mill found on regular F-150s. Besides offering gas and emissions-free driving, moving the truck's propulsion to the wheels also opens up more space, allowing for new storage and design solutions.
But they shelved the EV F-150 at the same time Tesla was developing their breakthrough Model S. For an entire decade they sat on it. So, no, I don't think Ford delivered it "on-time", I think they delayed it for over a decade.

As for your last sentence, "So long as you respect the limits of the truck you are ok.".

True, but that's true of literally anything. As long as you respect the limits of a car constructed entirely of unpainted balsa wood and powered by a Stirling engine, you are fine!

Ford had a concept vehicle in 2008. It was never scheduled for delivery.

The Ford is arguably the best shipping electric truck for professionals. Comparing it to obsolete tech is silly.

You are essentially holding it to a standard which does not exist and won’t be available for Some time.

If someone had the choice between a Lightning and a Cybertruck it would be a different conversation. But they don’t.
