It depends on your reservation number and if Tesla goes in order regardless of model type. If you’re in the low 100Ks I wouldn’t worry about it. If you’re <50K I might buy the 350mile range model, use it for a couple years, sell it to someone >500K for at least what you paid for original one and get the latest, greatest model.

Ive mentioned it in other threads. But I'm 96% sure I'll be getting the first version. And then, if I'm not satisfied, whenever the version I really want comes out. I'll sell and get it.

But since I'm like #49k who knows what'll be out by the time I can buy

I am 50.001% sure I should know the wait difference and price difference to make that call but if 350 mile was real highway miles, that could be enough for me.
350 EPA combined Hwy/City miles is never real highway milage because the average speed of the EPA combined drive cycles is around 30 mph.

For the Cybertruck, I would suggest you could do about 85% of the EPA rating at a steady 65 mph. Want to go faster? Subtract some more range. But I never worry about speed in my Model 3's on a long trip because the Supercharging is so fast, it doesn't matter. If I'm trying to get home from a day trip out of town without making a charging stop, I might slow down to 65 so I'm not cutting it too close. But there's never range anxiety because it's so easy to stop, if I have to, and throw on some additional miles.

If you believe what the media tells you, you would think every charge stop is a lengthy ordeal. If we're not on a lengthy, multi-state road trip, but we have been driving around on a weekend get-away, we might stop 100 miles from home for a quick little 5 minute touch-up stop and a quick pee. If we are on a long multi-state Interstate trip that requires sequential Supercharging, we tend to drive for 2 1/2-3 hours and charge for 10-15 minutes. More often than not, the car is ready to leave before we are!

I'm about 200K in line so if there is a later release with longer range etc. I suspect I'll be in that timeframe. Much depends on cost/feature as others have said.

The 500 miles is very appealing although I don't think I really need that much, I suppose I might pull a popup camper or something, but that's unknown. For the most part, 500 miles is WAAAY overkill for me, so it depends on the price premium. My MY Performance has 303 EPA and I've had zero issues with that range when driving all over my state. There has been times when having 350 or so like the M3LR might have allowed me to not worry about stopping before the hotel.

Which brings me to one of the current issues with charging right now, questionable options at the destination. Over the summer I stayed at a bunch of different hotels/motels and although they all had some kind of level 2 charging, the availability of them was unknown and questionable so there were times I chose to stop at a supercharger to top up just in case. If those chargers were tied into the Tesla network and I could see their status and availability I would have had the confidence to just go straight to the hotel, no stop needed. Or indeed if there were far more chargers I would have taken the risk.

So extra range would be nice, but is it worth an extra $10K or more? Probably not...

Indeed, speed really kills it. I tell the hubby all the time when he's complaining about the range in his X, stop doing 90!

500 mile feels insane though. I feel like I'd want to pull over before I used all of that. It definitely has its appeal, I could be convinced, my arm could be twisted to pony up the extra for it... almost. Depends on the day and my bank balance at the time. ?

If I get 130 KWh usable battery in CT on Tesla network, I will be fine regardless of how they market or label the range. I did a 170 mile trip in my Lightning last weekend and I was able to get 2.8 mi/KWh out of it. I am sure I will be able to get that out of CT at higher speeds. I think if 350 mile CT had 130 KWh and 500 mile CT had 190 KWh, I would go for 350.

Hmmm.. good point, I don't tend to keep vehicles that long honestly, but who knows what I'll do with the CT.

The main reason you need 500 EPA is that that is only going to be about 450 or less real world miles and if you ever want to tow an RV, you will be lucky to see 180 miles towing 10-80% actual range between stops. The 350 mile truck is useless to me. Lucky I am way down on the waiting list so happy for everyone else to be the test group and my Cybertruck to have like 500 revisions / improvements. My model Y will hold me over until then for sure.

Get the 350mi range CT then wait 300k more trucks to deliver and hope the 500mi range truck is out by then (2nd reservation)!
