I am hoping that Elon/Tesla come up with a plan for the tri-motor that allows the purchase and receipt of the 500 mile range version, but ships with a 350 mile range pack (this assumes that the 500 (or 600?) mile version of the 4680 cells range has not yet reached production volume). So those wanting the 500 mile tri-motor can drive their 350 mile version until the longer range packs become available. Then for a smallish fee Tesla swaps out the pack for the pack already paid for. If the tri-motor qualifies for the $7500 IRA contribution, then part of this savings can help defray the pack swap fee. This way Tesla gets the revenue for the 500 mile tri-motor while the buyer gets to drive the CT until the high mileage cells are available. Seems like a win/win for both Tesla & purchaser. The 500 mile range is significant to those of us who plan to do remote camping, boondocking, or festivals. The range loss caused by towing a trailor or a installing a camping add-on will be significant. Even in day-to-day use, the 80-20 rule for battery-friendly charging cuts the range by 40%. All in all, the 500 mile range is very important to me, and a 350 mile CT would be a deal-killer.
Fingers crossed ?
