Every other Tesla model had reservations and those with earlier reservations had priority over later reservations. To think Tesla would suddenly ignore when the reservation was placed is illogical in the extreme.
this just isn’t true

People had down real deposits, $1,000, for Model 3, and within a few months of release - before hardly any were delivered, Tesla abandoned the reservations and opened orders to anyone willing to put down a $2,500 deposit.

Day 1 reservation holders who had stood in line for 12 hours to make $1,000 deposits, took delivery AFTER people who ordered online months later.

This isn’t said to suggest they’ll do the same with CTs. But it is to level-set the mythology that these $100 ‘deposits’ will be ‘honored’ in the long run because Tesla is a chill dude

I don’t see the upside of ignoring the order of reservations for Tesla (except when it comes to smaller batches of production).

I can see Tesla needing to have a more realistic idea what the demand is so they can deal with their suppliers. However as it was stated if their pricing is attractive, that should be a non issue and they can go with their maximum production capacity for the first few years. If the price is set high, then they may ask for more deposit To gage the actual demand.

I for one will bail out if they require $7K of none refundable deposit before I see some reviews and get to test drive one. Not that big of a fan boy yet. If it is $7K of refundable deposit for 6 month or less delivery window and I could back out at the time of a test drive, I may put down a deposit.

Pushing current Tesla owners ahead of the line does not make much sense either, because they seem like they are already sold and will wait as long as it takes. If Tesla was going to ignore the order, it may make more sense for it to be in the interest of selling higher priced trims or to the customers that may be on shaky grounds (going for another brand). That is if there was any way to figure that out.

I would be happier if I was not pushed ahead and could wait for the bug fixes to be implemented first.

Didn't Tesla prioritize somewhat by region of the US on previous releases, at least for a while? It seems they wanted to keep initial purchases nearby the factory and parts.

I still predict that if they batch out emails in some sort of chronological order, that a very large percentage will not have cash on hand to pony up. How long would Tesla hold out for a $100 res holder before giving the slots to the next batch? No one knows, but having cash on hand will be the make or break for a lot of folks. That is my prediction at least.
The larger the initial deposit the more hotel points I get from my credit card. :)

The early reservation holders with high expectations are the most anxious. Patience my friends.

Those of us (me, especially overseas) with later orders are already resigned to getting the CT when it's time.

18 months+ is our wait time, so we are not necessarily thinking about the sequence, or thinking whether it is released in September or November this year.

From what I can tell, the Model 3 was the last vehicle they did that with, and the biggest driver of that situation was probably that cash was tight, and they wanted to absorb the cost of the production ramp-up as quickly as possible by reducing transport costs early in the ramp.

The first few hundred will probably be local, but I expect them to start shipping them out before they hit the first 1000 or so deliveries. Because they are not under a cash crunch and they want to be able to use local reservations as a buffer, should they have trouble getting enough car carriers at any point in time, they can just sell locally.

What this means is, if you have a low reservation number, be ready for an e-mail out of the blue saying they are ready for you to configure and order!

Once details of the frunk size get out, Tesla will only be able to sell a couple of hundred cybertucks total.
The frunk is not a huge deal. I really wanted a mid gate but didn’t get that. I think the bigger deal is the range and price.

What Tesla should do is let everyone know that the first units are quad motor specs with either 350 miles or 500. Open the configurator to everyone and see who's willing to order the quad. Keeps it simple for them and gives them an almost exact feel for demand for the quads. Then they can see what the rest of the reservation holders want. Obviously prices are still unknown and will be a major player in the demand. Like many here, I just want a dual motor 500 mile spec, but ordered the tri to get that 500 miles spec. Hopefully less than 6 weeks away from price release.

That’s what I remember from the Model 3 launch.

We should start a petition to Elon for this, to release the price and spec now, at least ballpark numbers.

I think the first batches will go to employees. The next batches will go to influences and famous people. The remaining batches will be regionally sent to deliver centers and distributed bases on reservation numbers.

So when they send 10 to Orlando and 10 to Chicago then the people with the lowest reservation numbers in those areas will get theirs. That will not be reservation 1 through 10 on one car carrier. But they also make every car to order so they are planning these things in advance so the people in Chicago are essentially committing to their trim and specifications before the line produces those cars.

Well, at this point, we don't know how they will manage the reservation list and various other things.

I do know 2 things:
1) I started saving for my next vehicle even before the CT reveal.
2) From this aspect, I'm thankful for the 4 year wait.

I'm ready. Let's do this!
