I’ve seen reviews of the Hummer ev and it looks like a fun rig. The decision cannot be about price because, as noted, it is not a wise financial decision. It has to be solely about fun and the imminent need for a new vehicle.

Rivian R1T available now for $50k less - no dealer markup, not GM.
ahhh, the third path

STEP 1: buy a *used* Rivian (to avoid most of depreciation hit)

STEP 2: wait for CT specs/pricing

STEP 3: if you decide you want the CT, use Rivian for trade-in once your CT number is pulled

Hummer EV markups will soon become a thing of the past, there are already plenty of dealers selling at MSRP, and production is ramping up. If you pay markup now, you'll take a massive depreciation hit in a few months

Here is a pretty simple idea that could have a HUGE upside but requires discipline to implement. do not buy the GM. instead bet on Tesla stock for $135K and wait for the stock to appreciate... if you wait 1y you could use the proceeds to get a Cybertruck at a large discount ... or to get the Cybertruck you want with all bells and whistles + fancy wrap and tri-motor ... and save at least $50k in my opinion. What is a year in Tesla time anyway? :)

SO.... be smarter, wait faster ( and more profitable FOR YOU ! ).

Just got a phone call that my local GM dealer has both a Hummer EV edition 1 Pickup AND an SUV available for purchase now (both ~135k with dealer mark up). I could buy it tomorrow if i wanted…

i hesitate because of the price and… well because its a GM EV… but i will say the fact that i could have it now is tantalizing, and it is a wild truck…

I likely wont get a cybertruck for 6 months-1 year from the initial delivery event… what to do?

Do you actually care if the Hummer gets purchased? The (overly dramatic) big benefit to you would be the canceled CT preorder. What then happens with that $100 is really of no concern to the rest of us.

Just a side note. If the Hummer is selling so well that the dealership is needing to call people to come buy one (I doubt OP is the only person that dealership called) then they most likely don't have a strong bargaining position to charge an arm and/or leg as the dealership mark-up. Also, if it is that hard to find a buyer, just think what it will be like in a few years once the CTs have been loosed on the public. As soon as the CT price is announced, the prices of all the other EV trucks are going to have to react too. This will further have impacts on all those who already own one of these non-Tesla trucks.
The only person who might care about that particular $100 bill is the JCERNN.

I do care a tiny bit if the Hummer gets purchased as measured by the tiny shortening of the reservation line. JCERNN asked the question, "… what to do?". Trying to be helpful all around, I gave him my carefully considered answer.

If all things considered they are equivalent in your mind and cost is really the only difference that is important to you, how much is a year of your life worth to you? For me the list of differences is both long and significant, with price being pretty low on the list. For me, even a Silverado-e, which is quite comparable in features, is still a distant second to the Cybertruck (except maybe range).
Well thats it,
Its not just price… we dont even know what the cybertruck costs yet so nothing to compare on that front.

i have high hopes that the cybertruck will retain enough of its promised features + new features, AND the fact that its backed by tesla software that it will be an exponentially better truck than the other options.

but, its also only “maybe”being released soon… i could buy the hummer tomorrow. Ugh

At the very least wait a month or so until the Cybertruck delivery event.
Yeah. It doesn't feel like i could make a choice without at least knowing the price and features of the CT…

Ah! if I understand correctly you have a reservation for a CT but you let yourself be attracted by the sirens like in Greek mythology....Well if you go with GM, we will have a faster ride to receive our CT, that's cool, but you won't taste CT and I think that's a shame!!! ??
Yeah. I think ill go test drive it but… both me (and my Subaru) have waited this long!

i can tell shes getting tired though… 75 miles till 200k

Most GM Hummer EV buyers would not be paying cash of $135K they would making a down payment and getting a loan for the balance of the cost .

Just take what ever amount of down payment ( $2K or $20K) you might have used to buy the GMC and instead buy that amount of Tesla stock and hold the stock at least until your Cybertruck is available.
The only thing about buying stock is you pay capital gain tax when you sell. I have about 50% of my CT savings in tesla stock, 50% in high yield savings
