When the configurator opens, you'll get your choice between available or later models to choose from. The model choice in the reservation form was more like a poll than a selection.

~500. Which happens to be the exact delta between my reservation number and 112744100. But from what I understand the reservation number queue includes every Tesla ordered.

Not every one, just reservations. Once you're in the pre-order queue, you have another number.

But powerwalls, solar roofs, they're in the reservation queue first.

I dont think you can really sell your spot in line.
If you can sell London Bridge, you can sell your spot in line. The question is, can you buy yourself a spot in line and still take delivery.

When an order number comes up will Tesla offer a reconfiguration option?

Almost certainly. We weren't able to select wheels or tires and some motor configurations may not be available. We don't know how Tesla will prioritize orders. We all like to think we own a spot in line but in reality, all we've done is reserved the right to purchase a Cybertruck. Those who ordered during the unveiling may not be ahead of people who ordered last week. I mean, they probably are, but we just don't know. My wife got her 2020 Model Y WAY before some people who ordered during the unveiling. We don't know why. It could be our location. It could have been luck of the draw. It could be that she just happened to order the configuration that Tesla was making at the time. We just don't know.

We do know why.

Tesla allows people to jump the queue if they select a vehicle that's already been produced (orphan or refused stock) or planned to be produced but not yet assigned a batch.

Some options, like single motor, never arrived; others are made in less frequent batches like colors; and seven seat variants we delayed by over a year.

Also, you need to hop on those response times, don't let their notification emails sit in your inbox.

That doesn't explain why I was able to get a Model Y when it was the new hottness in less than 60 days when people who ordered the same car were waiting months after I got mine... and I ordered a full 3 months after they started taking orders.

I know configuration matters. I'm talking about people who ordered the exact same thing. I guarantee that the people who ordered on opening night who ordered whatever Tesla happens to make first, won't all be getting theirs before everyone who ordered the same configuration later.

Our Blue Model Y LR with black interior and the stock wheels/wheel covers is pretty standard.

Again, I literally explained it. The features you pick or the car you select moves you to a different part of the queue. If you take what they're making now and don't wait for whatever option they're delaying, you get it much sooner.

Especially if you accept an in-stock car.

I literally explained it, too.
I ordered the same car as others who ordered the exact same car as I did. I ordered 2 months later and got mine 6 months before they did. I got asked several times how I got mine so quick by other people who ordered the same car. Not different options, not different features.

It just so happens that Tesla may want more than just Californians to see Teslas so they shipped them out all over the place. I believe I got mine because I'm in Nebraska and nobody else around had a Model Y. Tesla surely wants people to see them on the road. Our VIN was in the first 14,000 produced.

We did NOT accept an in-stock car. We ordered and waited almost 2 months to get it.

You keep saying that, with no evidence.

If they were outside a delivery radius, they'd get it slower. If they dithered on any response time, they'd get it slower. If they chose a different color or options, or changed their options, they'd get it slower.

There are many reasons why someone would get it slower.

People who walk up and select a car that's unassigned - which I have said they build them in batches - you can end up ahead. That's an orphan car.

That's why refreshing and checking availability is important if you want it sooner.

We have no way to know if they dithered, if they're in a slower delivery area, if they changed their options, if an earlier car got orphaned and you got it.

You keep saying that 'it doesn't matter' and I keep explaining that it does.
