I just submitted my order for a foundation series and saw that some cybertruck owners are renting their rigs on Turo for $500 - $1000 per day. Curious what members think of this. I'm thinking that since I'll get the rig soon, I'll also be able to command a high price and help defer the huge additional cost of the foundation series.

there is an old tread on this.
I would go ballistic (like $2K+) if you have only one CT in your metro area. you probably will score several extremely interested YOLOs, maybe some "influencer" for youtube video, several future buyers that want real test-drive, more then 5 min around dealership.
if not just go with local market going rate. then it is race downhill.
good luck!

That was my plan in 2019 to offset the cost and make a few bucks. My “I’ve waited 4 years for this truck and was lucky enough to get an invite” 2024 plan? F**k everyone, don’t ask to drive and I may let you sit in it ?

That’s a good plan. You could always lower the price after you get the few that are willing to pay $2k for a day. Back in 2018 my wife and I rented a M3 while we were waiting for hers to be built and paid $300 back then. The owner and his son both bought an extra M3 specifically to rent out.

I’ve been searching for a Cybertruck on Turo in LA, but haven’t found one yet.

I prefer to rent vehicles for a weekend, or family trip, before dropping $100K on it. I know I’m getting gouged on the rental, but it’s a worthwhile investment to make sure the vehicle fits my family’s needs.

I’m curious, how much would you be willing to pay for said weekend or family trip?

That’s a good question. I’m not really sure. I guess what the market dictates, but within reason.

For context, I’ve rented 5 Rivians over the last 18 months for various reasons. I paid anywhere between $125 - $350/night. I also paid around $150/night for a Ford Lightning. These trips lasted anywhere between two and ten days.

I also wanted to rent a Hummer EV truck, but couldn’t find one for under $1K/night (at that time), so I just test drove the truck at a dealership. The dealership was pretty cool about it. They let me install car seats and just gave me the keys and told me to have fun. It was an enjoyable experience, but still not nearly as informative as renting a vehicle for a few days to get a sense of what it’s like “living” with it. I didn’t feel bad about not purchasing the Hummer, either, as the dealer was asking nearly six figures in markup. They even admitted the markup was absurd, but were confident that someone would still buy it.

But to circle back to your question, I would pay more to rent a Cybertruck than I did for the Rivians and Lightning. I was very late to the game and placed my deposit in 2021, so I don’t think I will need to make my purchase decision anytime soon (unfortunately). However, I am still very interested in driving one, and will continue to monitor Turo to see what’s available. I have two young sons, and they absolutely flip whenever we see a Cybertruck on the road. Their reaction will be worth the premium.

Thanks for responding. The Rivian and Lightning prices seemed pretty reasonable. I wouldn’t be surprised when they start showing up on apps like Turo and advertised in other ways.

My biggest fear is renting it and someone is involved in an accident. Sure they’ll have to pay for insurance as part of the deal but right now Tesla isn’t making replacement parts for collision repair, they’re making them to fill orders. Who know at that point how long it would take to get it fixed.

I understand an accident could happen while I’m driving it but that’s somehow easier to live with.

No doubt folks will be interested in seeing Cybertrucks close up when they start hitting the streets and I hope those who have one are gracious enough to chat other Cybertruck enthusiasts and reservation holders up and let them get a peek or feel for the inside. If I wasn’t getting one and I came across one in the wild I know I’d like to have a peek. For that reason I know I’ll try and be as accommodating as I can.

Aside from potential hard driving abuse by the renter, the other issue I would worry about is someone tearing it down to make a social media video then effing it all up trying to put it back together.

Or try to set some kind of off-roading record by racing up Pike’s Peak or making a video of your CT jumping a row of cars or whatever, you get what I mean.

You as the owner have absolutely no idea what the renter intends to do, and/or ends up doing, to your truck. And talk about voiding the warranty. Yikes.

At least to me anyway, needing to “whore out” my beloved Cybertruck to strangers who will undoubtedly do what they will with it - just for me to be able to acquire and keep it - would mean I probably should not buy it in the first place, because it might not be treated with the care and consideration the actual owner would bestow upon it and I may not be able to tolerate the condition in which the truck was returned to me each time.

Just my personal opinion, all the more power to those who don’t mind risking their CTs.

Renting/Leasing is allowed under the Order Agreement right? Curious what a long term lease would be worth.
