Has anyone successfully connected their CT to a non-Chamberlin garage door opener? I have a Genie opener, that has WiFi enabled, but unfortunately cannot get it connected to the MyQ app. Really disappointing that Tesla moved away from Homelink, which was a really easy process to get it connected. Any advice would be appreciated!

Ok thanks for the advice. I was trying to avoid another device because my Genie is already WiFi enabled, but since you guys recommend this route, that’s what I will do.

I installed the MyQ device on my Craftsman garage door opener. Works great!

We love it. We did the trial last year and actually paid for the subscription last night.

I had nothing but issues with this when I used it. To make matters worse, I had to subscribe to something that barely worked when I needed it to. My workaround (as stated in another thread somewhere), was to enable the geofencing so that when I drove up to my garage door, it would open. I did still have intermittent issues, but at least I wasn't paying a subscription for the subpar performance of MyQ. Good luck!

I just don't get it. I have had a MyQ garage opener device for quite a while. Amazon Prime actually gave me the device free when they were promoting delivering your boxes into your garage. I use the app every day and find it very convenient. Again, the app is free and there is no subscription required to use the app and device.

So, why the heck is Tesla charging a subscription to use MyQ if the app by itself on your phone requires no subscription and works just fine?

I really hate all these integration "conveniences" in which a subscription fee accompanies it.

I think I will just continue to use the app on my phone and not have to pay a subscription fee.

I have MyQ on my openers and have it integrated into my Control4 home automation system. I also have a HomeAssistant server running to integrate all my other random devices into one automation interface. MyQ removed their API which broke the HomeAssistant integration, but my Control4 integration still works fine.

It's more likely the case that MyQ is making Tesla charge for the subscription or lifetime fee since Tesla is choosing to provide an in car integration of the system. The advantage is that you'll get location based opening/closing of the doors with door state detection. Also if you pay for 1 subscription, you can use it on multiple vehicles. The lifetime subscription is about the same price as the homelink adapter.

I still don't like the idea of not having a homelink adapter. MyQ works fine, but I'm trying to localize all my devices so they'll still work when the internet goes out. As far as I know, MyQ only works with an internet connection, so even if your car is connected to your local wifi, it can't communicate with your locally connected wifi MyQ device your internet connection is down.

I have both Homelink in the car, and also MyQ on my phone.

I like Homelink for it being a more closed direct and secure system, seamlessly integrated with the U/I.

MyQ is also as I understand it. I only use MyQ if I'm away and need to open the door for someone else remotely, which hardly ever happens, maybe once every two or three years at most.

I'm not a fan of MyQ using the cellular network which adds slightly more latency and also less security. If MyQ or a device running it is hacked, the garage door opener is exposed. I like the Homelink better for everyday use.

Pulling up a phone vs. using the screen is worth it to some. Plus you get geofence options. Only $45 a year, but if they aren't including HomeLink, I wish it was part of the premium services.

Yeah I have MyQ at my vacation house and I got Sommers and an old Liftmaster at my main home. Luckily they are use Homelink and its nice to have the remotes built into my Fords. But I wanted something a bit better for access because I have a Control4 system. So I wired in some Shelly relays to them (and the My Q in my other home). The Shelly has a cool API that integrates well with Control4 and Homebridge (Apple Home back end). It also has a nice Apple Carplay app that I put the garage buttons on. I just wish Tesla leveraged Carplay. because now I have to pull up the phone to open the garage doors.
