If the guy is who they think he is, and he did this willingly (probably both are the case, but one can perhaps be excused for wondering), he's a mess of contradictions.

Here's hoping they find something on his computer or search history or whatever. Either he had a major mental problem that had gone undetected, or there was something he just couldn't deal with and he went for the high drama exit.

Article says that his wife had just dumped him. I’m sure more will come out.

It only said that the photos of him proposing to his new partner on Facebook had disappeared.
This may suggest that she said no but we don't know that! It only appears that way. I think we need to hear from her mouth what happen and what she thinks it was that triggered this behavior from a so-called patriot.

but you don't elaborate what part explain to me how intervention on a potential act of terrorism is unamerican
Check any farmer’s truck on NYE and you’ll find fertilizer, cans of fuel, fireworks, and probably one or more firearms. Terrorist?

The Patriot Act was intended to defend the homeland and critical infrastructure, but was often mis-used by overzealous law enforcement. Suddenly a ferroequinologist could be harassed or arrested for photographing trains.

No amount of surveillance can look into a man’s heart and reveal his true intentions. Only fascist authoritarian governments would even dare to try.

I thought there was a Patriot lurking in there somewhere... ??

Besides, now with AI generation getting better by the day, it won't be long before recordings and surveillance will no longer accepted as irrefutable evidence anymore, so surveillance could become whatever you want it to be, to prove anything, even if it didn't happen. So using it to prove intent would be pointless.

NYTimes has a surprisingly neutral report, which highlights mental health concerns of our military personnel. Worth the read…

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/02/us/cybertruck-trump-las-vegas-bomb-livelsberger.html
An article discussing how puzzling it is that he didn’t use his knowledge to devise a more effective explosion:

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/02/...ytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

Meanwhile, it’s now obvious that this was a suicide plus some kind of political statement, although the nature of that statement is as puzzling as the ineffectiveness of his “device”.
The only logical conclusion I can come up with is that he wanted to disappear and this is the only way to do it. In that case it wasn't him in there and he has disappeared of the grid forever.

Beyond actual logic. Paying a debt or for someone else by being paid to making a political statement (?!?). Years of PTSD from events overseas. There will be those 'MKUltra' theories running around as well.

I don't think there will be a good answer on the outcome of this.

The problem is freedom. I live in Vegas, have a buddy visiting, and have a favorite spot out in the desert I like to shoot. Load up the guns in the back seat. Put the tannerite, targets, clay pigeons, propane tank with heating element, etc all in the back of the truck. Drive over to Trump tower (or any other major hotel that would trigger) to pick up my buddy.
Day ruined, cops put me in jail, now dealing with lawyers, bail, trying to get everything back, etc, etc, because I planned a fun day with friends. A security state doesn't allow for people not to be bad.

*all hypothetical, I don't live in Vegas*

[EDIT]
And no, once triggered on an event and they see guns, police are not on your side. You will end up in cuffs and at a minimum the back of a squad car.

I can't see his posts without incognito mode, but he blocked me after I completely shredded his attempts to lie about FSD and his "close encounter" lmao.

Okay let's not change anything and just accept that things like this will keep happening and likely increase in frequency. We will wonder if one day you will find yourself or your family in the mist of it. or should I say smoke and ash of it. it's not like they were not watching him already anyway. FBI was tracking his travel from Denver to Las vegas so they knew what he was up to already. somehow, they missed him loading it with fireworks. so, your assumption that it would be unamerican to spy on someone of interest is wrong. American FBI agents do it all the time

Please stop. Several of us have tried to bring it back on the topic of what actually happened.
This is instigating political responses. If you want that conversation have it in the right place. There is no way to reply to this and not have a political science discussion.
