NOTE: Option 2 means using Cybertruck Ranger Extender which takes up significant space in the bed and since it is separate from main traction battery the Ranger Extender will probably have other electrical/battery limitations (slower charging speed?, waste of another buffer, poorer cooling?, fewer cycles).

------------------------

Most factory stock full-size crew-cab pickup truck owners never go off paved roads except for dirt/gavel driveways/parking lots and occasional semi-offical county/privately maintained dirt/gavel roads.

Most factory stock full-size crew-cab pickup truck owners have never had even 9.6" of ground clearance.

Do most Cybertruck owners that want more range for towing need towing range AND also extreme ground clearance (16")?

I would be very willing to trade some loss of ground clearance instead of losing bed space in exchange for significant range increase. Even 11" clearance would be much better than ground clearance of Ford F-250/F-350 SRW 4x4 Crew-Cab with 6.5" bed.

Want extra range when towing at high-speed on paved interstate/intrastate highways.

Long range tow vehicle might do low or intermediate off-road but would never be used for extreme off-road.

Durable and rugged enough to go anywhere. Tackle anything with electronically adaptive air suspension that offers 12” of travel and 16” of clearance.

None of the above.
I do tow.
My Model 3 has been on some roads that the majority of Jeep owners wouldn't go. But my old Bronco II did get lost quite a few times.

Wouldn't it be great if instead of losing ground clearance or bed space, they could instead sacrifice the in-bed trunk for more battery space. They could even make the additional battery modular and removable so that you could save mass when you do not require the extra range.

Safety might be a big concern with battery in that under bed storage compartment. The compartment is past the rear wheels and in the rear-end crash crumple zone.

And dramatically impacts the center of gravity. Which then messes with handling.

Yes, agree handling would be impacted. My safety comment and handling are not only potential issues. I made a note at top of my original post where I listed some of the potential side affect issues with Tesla's ranger extender in the bed, most of those issues could also be relevant to battery in bed sub-truck.

Have you ever bought another vehicle before? How many times could you get everything you want in a single vehicle? In my case never. It's always a compromise.

How much bed space do you expect the Range Extender to impact? What items are you going to realistic haul that get impacted. What happens if you install a false floor in the rear of the bed, you can still carry 4x8 sheets.

But reality says, wish and vote all you want. What it is, is what it is.

If what it is isn't what you want, then look at the other options available to you.

All you are asking for is "Which do you want?" It seems as if you want towing. Well there are others that want clearance. Are you better than them?
Tesla did give the haulers an option though.

What about those that want to tow primitive rigs off-road?
