Wiper folded in half, scratched hell out of windshield.

So my wiper blade folded in half, the blade cartridge came apart and scratched the hell out of my windshield. I turned it 'off' several times but it kept running. The connection piece at the middle of the blade has a metal bracket that is bent and the whole blade assembly came apart. I don't know how that piece bent. Does that piece come with the replacement blade?

I'd start with a new wiper. If the metal part does not come with it, off to the service center...

Here's when it broke. I defrosted for 10 minutes and made sure the blade was free before using. Watch the end of the blade when it goes fully down. It completely bent itself in half

Except SC is two hours either direction. I can't drive it bc it will still run the wiper when it's 'OFF'. Have to wait on new wiper blade to ship to me

You are correct, us down here in New Orleans are not use to 10 inches of snow. Unfortunately I had same experience on Tuesday. My mistake was running de-froster for 10-15 minutes prior to turning on wiper. This turned light snow against windshield to packed, heavy wet Slush. Wiper arm was strong enough to push through But the Plastic wiper Blade snapped.
