Might be a safety requirement to replace them because those bars were not deformed at all. They barely had scratched on them.
They wouldn't have been hit directly, but the deformation of the receiver and center bar likely would have done something to them since they are the attachment point.

Collision guide seems to only deal with the main chassis and not the parts bolted on. Glad your casting didn't get tweaked.

Considering the impact, that cost is drastically lower than I imagined.

15 years ago the most hazardous folks were drunk drivers you could typically avoid them by when you drove, my guess is that on most nights after 10 .. about 5-10% had alcohol in em.. 5% were drunk and every one of them said “oh I’m a better driver than most so I can do it”

now phones in use 24/7 by I’d guess 70% of people using the justification of “oh I’m a better driver than most so I can do it” yes even phone calls can distract you especially *ahem* elevated emotional heated discussions.

The threat of being hit by one of these punks is so much higher than being hit buy a drunk!!! Plus it’s a temptation for every one of us regardless of time of day.

Not you guys though, our phones are Bluetooth linked and voice operated.
I love the automatic DND on the iPhone. At most I will voice reply to a message from the wife but everything else can wait.

Truck is back baby.

Took tesla 13 days in total.

Truck looks good except for the top applique on tailgate. It sticks up a bit on the left corner. It doesn't sit flush. This part was re-used from my damaged tailgate. Im assuming they started to pry it off from that corner and it got deformed in the process.

And yes Tesla said this acceptable to them, they cant do anything about it ?

I'll post a picture later today.

Would that be a complaint to run past the insurance company?

Oh, in that case probably not worth the effort.
My thought had been Tesla didn't get approval from insurance to replace that part, and wasn't going to do it under warranty. Although, if it was fine and Tesla damaged it during the repair, that is on them to fix.
I see what u mean.
I don't think its enough for them to admit it's damaged anyway.

I'll post a photo when I can. A before and after.

They've specifically talked about the crumple zones built into the castings, that attach to, in this case, the trailer/bumper.

Hence, why I'm curious how they're fairing.
I had no frame damage. Thank God!

So if there is a crumple zone, it didn't work lol.

The top tailgate appliqué simply comes off by lifting up. There are clips that attach to the tabs to help the applique stay in place. My guess is the side that is elevated either has the clip(s) missing or tab(s) broken. IMO, be worth removing it to find out.

EDIT: Also, the top tailgate appliqué is not supposed to be reused, according to Tesla. So you should have received a replacement if they needed to pop it off for the repair.

This morning I pressed along the entries applique and heard it click into place twice. But unfortunately this wasn't in the left corner, where I'm having my issue.

I forgot to take and post pictures, i'll do that tomorrow.

They probably started peeling up the applique from one end and permanently bent the end of it. But you are correct, it is worth taking it off to further diagnose. Although I'm afraid of breaking the damn thing while trying to remove it myself.

Edit: I just saw the note that says it's not supposed to be reused. That's ridiculous and I'll be reaching out to Tesla Collision on Monday. Thank you for that.
