No one will ever convince me that the PT Cruiser wasn’t one of the coolest cars ever designed and built irrespective of the general consensus that it was a stupid shit box that everybody should avoid - it constantly makes “worst car ever” lists now. I will never care what a single solitary soul, besides me, thinks about it. I’ve never been someone that you could peer pressure or cause to do Groupthink. I’m happy to be the only one in the crowd who is correct. ?

I feel exactly the same way about people’s - non-political - objections to the Cybertruck. “I do not recall asking for your opinion, and when I want your opinion, I will tell you what it is!” - would be my general response.

Oh, geez, the PT was ugly, uncomfortable, and was sluggish and everyone I knew who had one drove like Mr Wheeler from the Goofy cartoon!

I think the saving grace for the Cybertruck is that it's hard to damage. Elon is... umm... a problem, but the vehicle will prove itself over time. If he lets it get cheap enough.

Look at interest rates, look at the housing market, rv/travel trailer market, car market. Things are slowing down. Tesla projected 250,000 CT sales annually. They are ramping up production and with Tax incentives / lower costs coming, they will have more sales.

I am in the South Eastern US where everyone has a truck... To put it simply people do not like the cybertruck, they would not buy it regardless of the price. I have given rides to people in my FS Beast and they like the tech, the speed, and fsd, but they hate the rest:

Most say its not a truck
They hate Elon
They hate EVs
They hate the way it looks
They hate the range, and in this category it is a big deal because people do use there trucks for towing which all EV trucks have a hard time with.
They are worried about getting it serviced as my state only has 1 service center (New Orleans)
They are worried about the battery life & charging infrastructure especially if you are in a rural area.

So I have the FS Beast and I also have a GMC 2500HD diesel, for towing or anything long I still use the diesel.

I asked if they would buy it if the price were lower, most would not buy if even if were 40K. I just don't see a future for it if the main market for truck buyers is giving it a hard NO. I think people that bought the CT in 2024 were never really truck buyers or people that are not using their CTs for work.

So I think the future for the CT is going to be using the platform its built on and making a CYBER-Tahoe type SUV or CYBER-ESCALADE. A large SUV. It would need traditional styling, not the angular style of the cybertruck and a larger battery like a 180KW.

So in its current form, the CT is a novelty, I hope Tesla doesn't go down the path of price slashing only to find out it didn't work (sort of how they did on the Model S/X after the refresh).

We live in the same state. Agree with all your points. Unfortunately, it’s a cultural thing too. Far right oil country toothless beer belly coonass men don’t like any kind of EVs, esp if the kids don’t like their fav jacked up diesel soot blower.

Easy way I view this, if people want autonomy (pretty clear it’s an unstoppable trend), it has to be electric. No such thing as a practical gasoline or desiel robot.

Let me preface this post by stating that I love the Cybertruck. I’m an early day 2 reservation holder and patiently waiting for prices to drop before pulling the trigger.

I think Q1 and Q2 are going to be rough for Tesla. Zero new products except for the refreshed Model Y.

I am optimistic regarding the 2nd half of the year because an all new lower priced vehicle is rumored to go on sale. Tesla is being very tight lipped regarding details. Also, the refreshed Model Y should be hitting higher production numbers as the kinks get worked out on the assembly line.

Regarding the Cybertruck. If MSRP's stay the same for the remainder of 2025 I don't see the Cybertruck beating 2024 delivery numbers (around 38,000 units). Why?

-The first adopters have adopted
-The unorthodox styling is considered ugly by many. Some refer to it as a dumpster on wheels
-The $80+ premium price point plus current finance rates limits the buyer pool
-A lot of potential buyers won't even consider a Cybertruck because of the association with Mr. Musk. His politics/comments have alienated a lot of buyers from considering a Tesla product. They wouldn't touch one with a ten foot pole.

I feel range anxiety is still a mental stumbling block for a lot of potential buyers.

IMO 400 miles of battery range is the sweet spot for BEV's to be seriously considered by current ICE owners.

It's the main reason why the majority of Scout reservation holders opted for the 500 mile range hybrid drivetrain.

Being a South Eastern Truck owner myself, I can confirm that a lot of us probably won't buy a cybertruck as our daily/goto vehicle. For me, its the lack of truck market "must haves": analog controls for basic necessities like AC, doors, gear shift, tailgate, etc. Also the lack of a spare tire is a big one that also turns a lot of people away, even the Rivian R1T has a full size spare tire for crying out loud and its a smaller truck.

For fuel, i'd say most truck owners have been spoiled by filling up most anywhere in less than 5 minutes and continuing with their day. Don't see this changing for awhile unfortunately.

Tons more reasons why SE truck owners won't own one, but I'm not gonna list them all. Personally I love the cybertruck and may get one as a second vehicle at some point, but not as my Daily driver.

Interesting takes on the subject. I love my cyberbeast, actually much more than I thought I would. I have previously owned multiple Ford Raptors and really enjoyed them but, like the cybertruck, they are not really made as a work truck or for towing. I really value the ability to haul crap in the bed and tow occasionally but frankly its rare that I tow anything other than moderate loads ie, 14' open utility trailer full of crap to the dump. Compared to the Ford Raptor, the cyberbeast is much faster, more powerful, smother, more comfortable, drives itself, and I don't have to put $150 in fuel in the 26 gallon tank every week. I am new to EVs but like many other things in the EV world, starting the day with a "full tank" is an amazing under appreciated benefit and so far I am loving it.

Yeah, that's a negative. And even if you do pay the extra bucks for the CT spare tire, where does it go? You're supposed to just strap it in the bed? Why doesn't the spare go under the bed, like on a real pickup?

I'm sure there are many reasons. On the other hand, an F-150 Lightning is about as traditional as an EV pickup can possibly get, and I suspect that SE truck owners aren't rushing to buy that either. They might well prefer the Lightning over the CT, but chances are they won't pick either one.

Rivian has a spare tire in the compartment under the bed, which is cool... until you put a 2 thousand pound pallet of stuff into the bed and can't access that compartment. Perhaps less of a concern given Rivian can't even carry 2 thousand pounds in the bed.

F150 has the spare mounted under the truck. Which is a better solution than Rivian's, especially since F150's bed is more functional. But that and probably other things reduce the F150's clearance to just a bit over 8".
