I’m also in NJ. The vibe has definitely changed and is more mixed. For me at least. In May 2024 there was definitely more love shown and amusement. Since the Elon debacle I have gotten a few misdirected hate. Just last month an old lady thought it was wise to cross the street while screaming at me about how I was an Elon supporter and a Nazi! No idea who she was. First time to experiencing that and it was a bit nerve racking!
I rarely run into Tesla haters in real life, but when I do, I embrace it.

Free entertainment.

My most memorable interaction was this odd guy I ran into in the parking lot. At first he wanted to know all about the Cybertruck and we had a friendly and informative conversation. But when I told him I was on a schedule and had to go, he said, "I just wanted to let you know I think that's the ugliest truck I've ever seen." I didn't miss a beat when I replied, "I know, I bought it just to piss people like you off." He laughed nervously and didn't know what to say.

Embrace the weirdos.

Elon equally well spews nonsense and behaves like a child, so all the depth that he projects from those other things gets lost for the majority of people.
Elon is not immune from making a mistake but, on the whole, I notice his opinions are a lot more grounded in reality than the average talking head on TV. And he's doing the necessary work (for free) to unshackle our country from all the waste, fraud and abuse that no one before him could even put a decent sized dent in.

Also, my point of view is that it has nothing to do with jealousy. A lot of people in this forum are quick to claim that the negative feedback is from jealousy or in part, I don’t think it’s really that at all. I think it’s mostly tied to politics and Elon.
I must be in your neck of the woods. The Cybertruck is at the intersection of strong opinions on TRUCKS and POLITICS. I think most of the thumbs down I get in the county are from traditional truck guys who disapprove of the truck based on what they perceive as an infringement into their space. The twisted angry faces and profanity have come from inside city limits and are definitely political.

Thinking about putting "‎NCC-74656-A" on the side bed sail as a nod to Star Trek's shuttles that looks very similar to the CT. Dope or nope?
I absolutely LOVE the Star Trek shuttlecraft “Galileo” as it was my inspiration to buy a CT.

I got a nail in my front driver side tire over the past day or two. Not loosing much pressure; but right in the damn middle of the rubber like it was placed there. And low and behold my sentry videos have had a couple people stop right in the blind spots that are the front tire areas. Maybe I'm just imagining the worst in people. Off to get a patch...

I am glad now glad no Madi Gras crews took me up on my offer to use my CT to pull a float in parade. As you might have read on national news feeds, the four CyberTrucks which made it to the parade, had to be pulled from route due crowds negative reactions. I would have been proud to endure the negativism and I am sure my CT would have survived but I doubt the newly PPF wrap would taken a beating. I am ashamed to be associated with New Orleans!

Man, that is sad to see all the unproductive future haters out there! Here in Florida I just don’t feel that vibe anywhere at all. I live in both worlds gas and electric and most people want to advance themselves and realize whatever is best for your needs is what you go with. Tesla cars are very common on the roads everywhere. Tesla trucks are not. It is a very large vehicle so that is not suitable for most people. Do you see anyone with negative views of Tesla cars?
Here the Tesla brand is everywhere and you will see a few of the trucks in most parking lots now.
I cannot understand how an
amazing vehicle can be a symbol that stirs up negative energy!
If it happened here in Florida I’m sure it would make me cranky!
Elon has an interview with Rogan where he talks about two separate guys who are in jail who plotted to do him in. He talks about revealing where much of the “funds” are going that he is truly afraid of an attempt to eliminate him.
His take on it is that someone with underlying issues focuses there issues on any person who’s name they have heard multiple times. Hopefully this turns around and we lose some of this vibe oozing into society. Love my truck.

To me, it’s pretty obvious that the hate encountered on a regular basis, usually in the form of thumbs down or middle fingers up, is political.
If it was just people that hate its appearance, I’m fine with it as subjective opinions vary so it’s expected. A insignificant small fraction might be truck guys or envy, but I really believe, the vast majority is politically driven.
It’s too bad that it’s become a symbol for political extremism which these days is being felt globally on a very real level.

They rub on some of the core ideological values of the modern Left. Note that I am not even scrutinizing these things myself, and I would have a mixed opinion, I am just explaining how the two things collide.
Agree.

If/when you elevate a man to god tier status, you will only be let down for all their faults in your mind. Everyone has faults, everyone is different. The real problem is Elon's haters are turning on private owners of products a company he only owns 13% of, made. That's not cool. Which is the worse evil?

I think all here agree that the CT is an unbelievable vehicle. There is no doubt that the unwelcome scrutiny and coverage of CT related vandalism (perceived or real) is having a large impact on sales. Elon is entirely to blame with his whackadoodle antics. We all know that Jim Farley, Mary Barra and even Akio Toyoda probably hold very firm political positions. They all had the discipline to shut the hell up about them. CT and increasingly broader Tesla owners are now the fallout and EM couldn't give a flying fcuk.

There is certainly some political hate, but that can't describe the true source of most of the hate. Politics has been used to amplify the Cybertruck hate campaign that started the day Tesla revealed the Cybertruck back in 2019. Remember that?

The source of the hate is fear. Fear that Detroit could be wiped out. Fear that the mainstream media is losing its hold on the world, that people can go to places like X to get the real scoop. Fear that Elon's SpaceX would compete in the military/industrial sector, fear that EVs will continue to eat into sales of gas and oil, fear that car dealerships will become irrelevant, fear that auto repair business will continue to decline.

The fear is real, what's not real is the belief that they can do anything about it. You cannot stop an idea whose time has come.

It's not a question of the degree of evil. One is evil, the other is not.
