Good to know. They didn't have it a few weeks back.
well, back to the drawing board. The third-party shop tried to make the connection and plugged it in, and verified that the lightbar installed by Tesla was faulty. See the video attached of the plug working with a different light but not when they plug it into the light bar. So now I have to go back to tesla

[I would let this be a lesson to others who are trying this approach. Let the SC install it. @guyluis may have more precise information about it but just sticking it up there is only part of the process there is a software based initialization that has to happen as well that only Tesla can do, if I’m not mistaken.] - not applicable to @tmtcapital’s situation

The trucks are designed to work plug-in play with third-party light bars, but not the OEM one. They are designed in such a way that they cannot be installed even on an all-wheel-drive FS let alone any other truck.

Tesla is in an interesting situation. They clearly intend this to be very exclusive to the FSCB but, also have some legal restrictions on letting you leave with this thing having been installed by them.

I give them full marks for the courage/stones to do something like this. But the implementation and training to the service centers has been lacking, to say the least.

The SC did install it but they just refused to do the plug in.

OK I’m sorry that is standard procedure I thought (because someone else said that they did), just get the light bar and take it to someone else to install altogether.

Then I can’t discount what you’re saying maybe your lightbar is just malfunctioning at this point, the service center will have no choice but to try and connect it and see if it works and then probably disconnected if it does work and let you reconnect it after you leave or replace it.

Either way there’s such a huge disparity in terms of the way SCs are dealing with this even within the same state in some cases. It’s been a mess of a rollout of these additional accessories.

You must be incredibly frustrated and annoyed. They are unable to let you leave the service center with that thing plugged in and working having been installed by them for liability/legal reasons. Which is why it’s such a huge deal that they are even doing this. But their SOP should involve making the connections and ensure the thing is working before you leave.

Hopefully your service center will learn from this experience and do better for the next customer.

It's incredibly stupid and frustrating. We all paid for something to obviously be a part of the car and work... meanwhile now we're supposed to take something that's not fully installed and then pay for it to get installed by a third-party. It's insane. Let alone it being faulty

I think they intend for you to be able to do it yourself. The problem is they have at least two different ways of doing it one requiring you to solder or at least use butt plugs or something besides wire nuts to form the connection, and the other that requires you to remove an exterior panel on the B pillar to replace it. This is not something that your average user may be comfortable with. Both of these would require you to have something above the very basic skills that most car owners have these days. We have at least one user who though he was being careful could not get the B pillar cover back in place and had to go back to the service center for them to fix it.

I can’t even comment on the DYI connection process, and that’s definitely not because my service center went ahead and made the connection for me - because they are not allowed to do that, as we all know and that would NEVER, EVER, not did happen! And, again, it most certainly IS NOT what did happen!

There’s just too much variation. It’s a cool thing Elon is trying to do here. The implementation is just bad. ?

I'm still waiting since September 14th for my light bar.
it would be nice to get some type of reassurance or thank you for waiting.
You got to hand it to them this would be the first time I paid for something and to wait this long to get it. other than live events or real estate. and not have a clear indication of when or if I will even get it. I can't believe I agreed to that. well, it felt more like forced into agreement. like you don't like it ok no soup for you. and with no human face in front of you to even express some minor change request or disagreement. they did it anyway got me into paying way ahead of time with uncertain terms ohhwee that's a new one for me. bless their hearts:love: .
I just scheduled service for the install and that did it. Took about 2 months to get in and found out it was the first install that the Salt Lake City Center had completed. Might want to go and schedule the install via the app and see if that will work for you.

Do you know if the B panel connector comes affixed after install by SC? I know the three wires on the roof sail panel are not.

I do not. Because as I “clearly” stated above [?], my service center DID NOT, did do that for me. Allegedly.

Let’s be honest, what the hell are you going to do with an off-road light bar anyway? Is it really that much of an issue? I would have to imagine that one day you will get the call to come install your light bar. Elon is not trying to pull one over on you.
the point I was making was that I have never in my life been talked into buying something and paying for it up front and not even know when it will be delivered, not even a rough estimate of the time frame in other words under uncertain terms. first time for me. and I was admiring his (elon's) audacity! that's all.

Just to update this, the day I took the car back from the third party after they showed me the light bar was faulty, I went in the Tesla app and told them exactly what happened with video and photo proof - they responded "A service advisor will reach out to your Monday" - Monday came and went, then I checked that service request and it showed "closed out". No one ever reached out to me. No one answers the phone of course, so I had to schedule a "new service appointment" 3 weeks from now and put in that request all the prior info (already did that) so they know what happened. Haven't heard a thing. Unbelievable.

Can you share the photos and video here? Just wondering if it's truly faulty (which may be the case) or the installer messed up the wiring - which should be unlikely because it's not that difficult, but you never know.

If nothing else, at least it might help others to know what kinds of errors or issues to watch out for. Thanks for considering it.

Yesterday,I got this message to an appointment I had on Jan 28. My fourth try (yes using all the buzz words recommended); it’s beginning to tax the humor of the situation.

Ordered 11/21/19. I picked up the beast on 6/12/2024. I got my email for the light bar from Tesla 4/4/2025. I’m going in tomorrow to get the light bar installed. As well as the wheel covers! Wanted to share for those who are still waiting.
