Something happened over there … going back to their roots of making fun of Cybertrucks being stuck. No more politics, hate, vandalism, etc. They must have gotten their hand slapped for doing something ?. It’s now a kinder/gentler Cyberstuck ?. Maybe the hate finally got to them! Mod posted this as a sticky and now most of the posts are fairly benign.

I’m actually happy to see that, tbh there was way too much hate and negative energy. When I first was looking for online forums I immediately went to Reddit. I typed Cybertruck and only got back Cybertruck.

5 min in and I was like wow there is a lot of hate and for the most part was becoming r/real Tesla but towards the trucks specifically.

most of the users leaving comments don’t even have a Cybertruck there just there to add fuel to existing flames.

Good to see. I got harassed there for a post I made on X about my delivery experience. My post was positive but because I had one small issue with the windshield wiper, they went overboard on their insults and trash talking.

Yeah that’s not necessary I also seen they cleaned up a lot of post like op mentioned they only want pics or videos of them stuck. Not in an accident or graffiti.

I think the graffiti one was the nail in the coffin for the mods.

either way I found this community and no need to even venture that thread of Reddit.

I think that they were the cause for a lot of crap we got, and they possibly may have gotten a whisper behind the scenes that they are out of line and need to clean it up or else. Even the mod "I-Pacer" was one of the most egregious offenders. That sub reddit was mentioned everywhere... X... Instagram... FB...etc, and they had a lot of followers. Perhaps now that it got cleaned up the vandalism may begin to subside.

Yeah- Reddit is the source for a LOT of hate and it gets concentrated in pockets of churn. I finally deleted my Reddit App when I saw the ramp up of Tesla and Cybertruck hate. I use it only on rare occasions for answers but not for dialogue. There is none there. That echo chamber just became louder.

Well this looks like what happened... its from a former mod of Cyberstuck:

Hey I’m a (former) mod of the subreddit until the closing.

The head mod created r/cyberstuck and has been diligently taking care of it since its inception, investing multiple hours a day into it. He decided yesterday to restrict it and take some time off due to the following reasons:

  1. There’s been a recent explosion in death threats and calls for illegal activity that break the Reddit TOS (whether we personally agree with it or not is irrelevant) and thus the moderator workload has skyrocketed.
  2. The original purpose of the sub was to poke fun at the absurdity of the Cybertruck as a vehicle, not to celebrate violence against Teslas nor to use the subreddit as a platform for political activism. There are other subs for that. We the mods all hate Elon and wish he gets what he deserves (you just have to look at our post histories), but r/cyberstuck wasn’t the place for that
  3. It was quickly becoming an unmanageable cesspool as Elon became more and more positioned at the forefront of political news, and it attracted right wing trolls flooding the subreddit with toxic comments and bait.
  4. We asked for more moderators but either nobody replied or the few we added did nothing, so the head mod and us had to keep doing all the work even as it was becoming clear it was well beyond our capabilities. And frankly, for just a subreddit, it wasn’t worth it.
  5. And finally most importantly, the constant harassment and verbal abuse the mods were exposed to. Every time we removed a low effort post or a reposted meme we received a barrage of verbal abuse and we got called Elon cocksuckers and worse. There was also the conspiracy theories about how we worked for Elon and the government and how Reddit pushed us to censor content critical of Elon (none of which is true, the admins have been remarkably hands off with us despite people posting some really vile stuff). Just look at the other comments on this thread.
Anyway, hope this clears things up. Please PLEASE don’t harass the head mod, he loved the subreddit and has put quite possibly thousands of hours into it and he’s the one who made it grow as much as it has done. I’m sure once things calm down he will come back and reopen the subreddit, but in the meantime I implore everyone to respect his wishes and take the Elon bashing to any of the many other subreddits dedicated for that purpose.

I understand his pinned post features some strong language but in the end we’re all volunteers and nobody deserves to receive such hate over an Internet forum. Cheers.
Looks to me like the mod got a taste of his own medicine. Maybe he knows how Tesla owners feel these days. Nice to see them feel some of what we experience. IMHO "Don't play with fire or you are bound to get burned".

My guess is that one or more of the mods were contacted, not via reddit but via another channel by someone with some law enforcement authority and let them know that they were not anonymous and that the/sub was part of a, or several, ongoing investigations. That likely scared them straight so they steered the sub back to being posts of Cybertrucks stuck in the snow etc.

Threats of Federal charges usually will make you reevaluate your situation. Usually...........if your not abnormal.

But, hey, it's Reddit.

So multiple people who I assume are adults volunteered and one of them spent thousands of hours to make fun of a vehicle. Sounds like a great use of someones time.
Don’t look at r/realTesla that’s a whole nother shit show over there ?‍♂?‍♂

I have this dream.

The dream is that Tesla, somewhere on the back end, is keeping track of the imagery of people who harass the cars. And making a list. And, maybe, hopefully, adding to that list the people who harass owners online.

And, someday, when an accident becomes unavoidable and the car has to choose which person to hit - it will look at that list, and choose well.

Hateful echo chambers are dangerous online. Glad it’s back to what it was supposed to be.

Now guys… can we all agree to just put our trucks in snow mode in the snow and air down tires / put in sand mode in sand?
