Struck a deer last night in rural WI coming home (ironically) from turkey hunting. Deer dashed out of wooded area adjacent to road at dusk - I didn't even see it before I hit it on front driverside corner.

I'm a hunter, so thought I'd keep the deer. Nope, not happening. The truck basically cut the deer in half and it exploded.

Now I get to experience the insurance/repair process. Yeah for me!

Happy Good Friday, everyone!

Make sure it has some kind of protection for the headlights!
They are basically a huge plastic unit thats begging to get pushed in and destroyed.

Was able to grab video from my Hansshow front facing camera and truncate it down to just the collision part. Notice the calm demeanor of the driver. Captain Sullenberger has nothing on me... ;)
That was scary I bet!
I travel quite a bit from one side of Florida to the other at various times of day. Last month right at dusk there was a dead alligator on and off the road
I saw it but did not see the vultures on it. When the vultures started to gain altitude as I approached one changed direction and could not gain altitude and hit the front of the hood. came up the windshield and as he looked me in the face he slid of the drivers side smacked the mirror and disappeared into the night. The impact was around 60 mph the noise was very loud
No metal or mirror damage (folded mirror in) but left some interesting vulture marks in the vinyl wrap. Month before I avoided a monster dead alligator at about four am in the fog. A deer could be devastating since the animals weight is about bumper high.

I'll see if I can find the video - never had to do that before. I also have the Hansshow front/rear cameras (rear view mirror), so there may be footage there. Here is the deer.

I had the same situation. It is time for good bumper and bull bar.

For those above, did any of those crashes were with FSD active? I am wondering if FSD would see the deer before our eyes?

I too drive on Texas highways at night……
I had FSD avoid 3 deer crossing the road at night two nights ago. Was going about 55MPH on a rural route and the truck started slowing aggressively before I even knew what was happening.
I usually drive on FSD so I didn’t overreact and was really impressed that it slowed down and waited for them to cross. I didn’t think to save a clip of it though ??‍♂

that said, I’ve also had FSD go around squirrels, rabbits, dogs and cats, as well as roadkill

Should have glued a cyberwhistle to the front fender!

lol. My g-ma used to drive Amish in WI and put those dumb things on her car when they were first starting to be advertised. I swear the amount of deer she hit tripled.

That is so horrible. Please post a warning, like a cover-up button, before posting something graphic like this next time.

May have missed it, but curious was FSD engaged when the deer was hit? Or were you manually driving? My truck has seen dogs in road and stopped so I was curious if it would detect a fast moving deer.

Well they are being sold in Canada now. It'll only be a matter of time. The structure of those A frames will be interesting to see. There haven't really been any roll overs besides the testing to see how sturdy they are.

I think my hit was because I had just put christmas lights on and it wanted santa....

Nice that the frunk still opened.

Was this you driving or FSD?

Hope the repairs are quick, let us know how your insurance company treats you.

DOH, yeah looks about like my event just deer came from the other side and I had a chance to start breaking. BTW autopilot never saw it.
It's pretty hard to tell who saw it first because once you put the brake on it kicks out of Autopilot (or FSD). It gives full control to the driver. So, even if the automated system beats you to the brake, you will disengage the auto systems by hitting the brake a millisecond after it already started braking.

Only by looking at the logs could it be determined if man or machine started braking first (and if the human started braking first there is no way to tell if the machine would have braked or not).
