Hi all, so I was on a road trip this weekend, on the highway at 75MPH, in the left lane, cars in front and a Motorhome behind me. The 2 cars in front did a hard break, and hit bumpers. Before I realized what was happening, FSD was aggressively breaking. Next thing I know the car drives onto the shoulder, and that is when I see the motor home hit the car in front of me at speed... Thank you FSD Team for the tech you have built.

All I know is I didnt swerve into the shoulder. I was just watching the car in front, not the big ass motorhome that was coming up behind me.

It sure does. If the algorithm Ai stack sees "impact guaranteed" it makes a quick decision "what are my options" and it chooses the one least likely to impact other cars or objects; or the chose with the least amount of mass involved in an impact.

@wusch
Did you not capture footage of the event?

How do you do that? I heard if you have an impact, you can talk to Tesla Support any they will send you all the details, but since I didnt get hit, I figured it wasnt recording anything

Yea mine dodged a tree branch in the road at dark time, didn’t see it I was chugging a soda, the next guy wasn’t so lucky and needed a tow. I use FSD nearly every drive now but you still gotta babysit it, this week it likes to turn into oncoming lanes after pulling off a T intersection. Still love it tho.

Yes! A few days ago while heading to my local gym with my FSD Beast, a small dog attempted to commit SBC (Suicide By Cybertruck☠ ), it darted out onto my path, but instead of turning it into an instant carrion, my FSD Beast executed the brake & Swerve!
Not today, not ever! Too bad, so sad, my little ?

This is where I think autonomous driving may eventually get complicated. Some of these decisions can get complicated enough to require ethical decisions.
Lets say you’re going through an intersection and there is an imminent collision with a single occupant car and the only way to avoid that is to swerve onto the sidewalk and hit a woman with a stroller and a baby.
How is a cybercab or Waymo going to decide that?

I thought that I read somewhere that FSD prioritizes life as #1??

Yeah but what about two lives? There are certain situations that require judgment while driving which may not be predictable.
Asimov’s projected reality is not that far away any more it seems.
