To the point, what tips can you providing to convincing the wife to approve a couple's acquisition of a Cybertruck?
She's been in one, but not driven yet, says "its ok"
Help is appreciated
If she's being reluctant, it might be for financial reasons. Or are you cross-shopping other $80K trucks?

I only bought inexpensive, older second hand cars and trucks until I could pay cash for new ones without putting a big dent in my investment/retirement fund. Always get ahead financially before taking out loans on depreciating assets. There will come a time when you don't need to go into debt for everything if you avoid debt like the plague from the time you become an adult.

First advice I can give, is avoid manipulating her. If you're clever you will get away with it for a time. But it will 100% come back as evidence against you, in every fight, discussion, or attempted manipulation going forward, in perpetuity. So avoid manipulation, its easy, but simply not worth it.

Cybertruck sells its self. I was so disappointed at the reveal event. I wanted it to be spectacular, and at first sight, to me, it wasn't. Then as I got to know Cybertruck, I loved the other features and functions, and ignored the aesthetic. Then over time the aesthetic grew on me, and now I love it.

I believe you can have a similar experience with your wife. Let her experience it. A simple test drive wont get it done. There is not much time, and far too much pressure on everyone. As some others mentioned get a 48 hour test drive. If you have this thing around the house for 2 days, and your wife gets to experience the function and features, she will likely fall in love, especially if the pressures of a test drive are removed. Don't take her to pick it up. Tell her you are going, but tell here you'll spare her the hassle. Wives hate messing around in showrooms, especially if its not for them. You want her to start this experience with a positive mind set, and open to the experience. But when you get back, tell her you'd like to take a drive together, maybe to brunch, or to something she enjoys. Run around with her all afternoon, and maybe go to dinner and then watch a sunset from the frunk seats. Let her experience the real lifestyle it can offer that most other cars don't. Then if she is opened to it, have her drive it. If she is still not sold, do not buy it. You'll never hear the end of it. But I suspect after she experiences the ride and drive, and the space and comfort, and then you make here aware of the safety, and efficiency, as well as the whole home backup potential, she is going to love it.

If your Tesla showroom does not specifically offer 48 hour test drives, submit and inquiry. When your rep reaches out, tell them how much you love the truck, but your wife is not sold on it. Tell them she needs to experience it for a weekend. They will most likely figure out home to make it happen.

I Turo’d one for the weekend and took the family on a little getaway. Once you experience what a GREAT family car it is, it sells itself.
That will also give her time to experience it without the pressure of a test drive.
Try to plan a weekend that plays up its strengths. Very light (not scary)off-roading, some scenery and at least one bulky shopping excursion. Some short but noticeable element of annoying driving that be handled by FSD. Maybe carry along some harder to transport adventure gear like bikes if she’s into that. If you have kids make sure they are picked up from school or camp in it at least once by her so she can experience the truck being idolized by little people.
The key is let her drive it but don’t sell it. Don’t ask her opinion about it during the weekend AT ALL unless she volunteers it. That’s for the week after when the car is already returned and she misses it. ?
Good luck.
Oh, you are a dangerous one!

Agree with several comments on this thread -- most convincing point to get my wife to agree was having her test drive .... I asked Tesla sales girl for an "extended" test drive of 90 minutes. We drove the CT as we would on a normal day! Also we purchased when they offered 1.99% financing. If only I could have received free supercharger-- we did AWD not FS. Did not purchase FSD but a month later, Tesla offered 12 months free!

My wife loves that the CT lowers itself when parked . She says it’s way easier to get in than any suv or truck.

also, hadn’t thought of this one until you asked but it’s the opposite of a chick magnet!

My wife had a 2023 porsche panamera that cost $165,000 and after I took delivery of the cybertruck - she decided she loved the cybertruck so much she stopped driving the Panamera completely.

Eventually sold the Panamera as it was just sitting in the garage. She likes the huge storage front and back, great a/c excellent ride, always having a full “gas” tank each morning. She hates going to gas stations. She likes to watch Netflix when I go into Home Depot, she. Likes that her little dog can go with her places and stay in the vehicle using Doggie mode.

The FSD system she likes at times as well- she likes to scare her friends with launch control!

I like that she is safer in the ct than in any other vehicle I could buy for her… the self parking mode that auto backs the car into a parking spot and the auto parallel parking function along with rear wheel steering relives her stress when parking a vehicle.

Was time for my wife to upgrade from her 2021 Tahoe. She had never driven my Cyberbeast in the 6 months I've had it. She loved how FSD could help her drive more safely so went to test drive the X and S.

She also drove my CB for the first time....and was amazed how it gave her the big/safe feeling she had in her SUV, and had the zip, fun and FSD of the X and S she test drove but they felt too low/small for her.

Tesla was running a deal on last few Foundation Series CT's in inventory, at $90k dual motor, lifetime FSD, data, etc. PLUS FREE supercharging for life.

So, now, we are a two Cybertruck family. She's warming up to the looks now, and the more she drives it the more happy she is that she got one.

I believe what happened was, I asked for the $100 reservation as a birthday gift shortly after the cybertruck was announced. It was at that exact moment I think had sealed the deal unbeknownst to both of us that it would actually happen. I guess she felt obligated to allow me to go through with it. I went through the order process when my time came and it was quick and painless compared to a visit to a dealer. Just make sure you don’t flip flop your decision afterwards. She knows it’s awesome she just won’t admit it lmao.

Dog Mode is an unsold and under represented feature of every Tesla. My wife was interested in a Tesla but when she found out about dog mode and saw it in action on mine, she said she had to have a Tesla lol.

When I got married in 1978, I was going to be Mr. Progressive and make everything a joint decision. What that means in practice is that I gave her veto power over everything I ever wanted to do. Motorcycle, business, etc. Now I’m old and bitter about what I could have done with my life. Be a man and buy the damn truck.

I always discuss desired purchases involving 4 zeroes or more, so this $120K purchase was no different. Although not value-added in your scenario, her response when my # was called early last year was “you work hard for your money and deserve it, so go for it.” Same response for Raptor and TRX before the CB, so I wasn’t surprised. I view the ask as an appropriate component of our partnership raising kids, running a house and now preparing for retirement.

Now a year in, I asked her what she likes about it and she said: it’s my (not her) favorite vehicle ever; its acceleration (although it also terrifies her); quietness in most circumstances; FSD; and ride comfort on short drives (not as great >200 miles).

GL!

The blatant misogynism and manipulation on the thread is astounding. How about teamwork?

My real answer was to purchase a ‘26MY Launch edition for her on the same day “we” put in the ‘25 CT order, with both of our names on both orders/titles.

She was already sold on Tesla because we have had at least one at all times since 2012, but she hated the look of the CT, yet understood the need for heavy towing , was willing to let me do my thing - no quid-pro-quo or manipulation, just a respectful conversation about what each of us wanted or needed. Done deal, everybody wins. She’s warmed up now to the CT, softened by the “pretty” wrap.
