Heads up to any and all who are making tinting decisions, make sure you don’t choose a film with any kind of metallic element if you intend to use Starlink inside the car. That piece of knowledge cost me a windshield retint.
if I spare one person that, it’s a worthwhile post.

That article says they warranty other tints too, if true then it doesn’t matter.

Hmm.. would it matter if the Starlink mini was mounted on an untinted CT glass roof?

No. It shouldn’t, but it’s nice to have the option. That was my initial thought as well and that is where I mounted. It worked great although I have read there were some FS that had unfriendly tint for that also.
Then I installed this starlight electrochromic roof thing which made that impossible. The lesson came after I installed it and tried to move the Starlink to the windshield so I retinted that and now it lives up front.
On a side note which was actually a pretty big surprise to me, I get much better speeds flat in the windshield like that than I did right above my head near the drivers seat.
I was never really comfortable moving it backwards or towards the passenger side because I have three kids in the back and if there was going to be some adverse effect of radiation which supposedly isn’t a thing, I wanted it to be over my head and not over theirs or my wife’s.

I used the Xpel referral service through Tesla earlier this year on the CT. Email was sent directly from Tesla and the process and payment completed on the Xpel website.

Super easy to use and book an appointment at a installer near me. Price is higher than if you just found an Xpel dealer / installing directly but includes the warranty from Tesla if you need to get the window(s) retinted due to warranty work.

Xpel team was super fast and did a great job. Lots of them wanted to work on the Cybertruck apparently. They took a lot of photos and some video for their social media sites.

Works fine on an untinted CT roof. I installed mine last week.
True for me too..Again though, there have been posts that certain FS trucks (I don’t know which ones or if the posts were credible) had roof glass treatment that interfered.

What mount is that for the starlink on your dash? Did you cover it in black ppf?

Veritas vans mount. I really like it for multiple reasons but mostly options.

Yes. I covered it in black ppf because the white top reflected in the angled windshield annoyingly. The black made it completely disappear.
I was worried it would overheat but that never materialized.

Good to know thanks for the info. I just ordered my Starlink mini with the sale price they had in May. Was still deciding where/how to mount. Are you using the suction cups or the magnetic mounts?

I have the magnetic mounts on there but I bought both. Like I said, options.. The little speaker grill at the very front is enough to keep the thing on there rock solid.
Easy enough t take it out while camping if you want to optimize and move it away from the trees, stick to the glass, stick to the car, whatever

Yes always great to have options. Good to know the magnetic mounts is enough to prevent it from sliding.

It just has to be far enough forward toward
the windshield that the front two feet are near that speaker grill.
