Hey everyone,

Looking for some advice or support.

I placed my CT order in mid-July and I’m scheduled to take delivery on August 1st. Just days after placing the order, Tesla rolled out the 1-year free Supercharging incentive, but it’s listed as applying only to inventory vehicles.

Here’s where it gets a little frustrating:
When I first called the local store, they said it sounded like applying the incentive wouldn’t be a problem.
Now that delivery is around the corner, they’re saying it may not be eligible after all, even though the truck I ordered was already on the lot when I placed the order. (And they have other inventory models on the lot now)

Has anyone been in a similar situation where Tesla still honored the incentive before delivery, even if the order was technically placed just before it went live? Or if the vehicle was in inventory but ordered online?

I’d love any advice on how to approach this before taking delivery or if there’s something specific I should say or request that worked for you. Just trying to make sure I don’t miss out on something others are getting for nearly identical trucks.

Appreciate any insight…thanks in advance!

If Tesla said they were delivering a vehicle without the free Supercharging I would tell them to cancel the order and then I would place a new order for one in existing inventory to get the free Supercharging. And I would tell them all this beforehand in the hopes that they would just make sure that the original order was delivered with the free Supercharging. But I’d honestly be ready to
Cancel and re-order.

If you cancel you will loose the $250 deposit. Do the math to see if supercharging would be more than $250. I haven't spent that much on it in 5 years.
They usually stick to the promo dates very strictly in my experience. Maybe I'm just unlucky and someone else can offer a better angle.

Hmmm less than 250$ in supercharging in 5 years? Maybe it isn’t worth the headaches…

Most people charge at home. While on a road trip, I’d imagine that every 250 miles a CT owner would stop at a supercharger to charge. Unless the drive stops at hotels or other places they offer free charging.

I imagine I will be driving on road trips all over, so I’m glad free supercharging is included with my CT, when I finally have it.

When do you take delivery? And did you get a inventory unit or did you order?

Who would you call? Every time I call I get the store that’s not super helpful…

My CT is in Honolulu, the dealership there is accepting it for me because I cannot have it shipped yet to CA. Registration will take more weeks, and then I can reserve a shipping company to move it to Bay Area.

I have completed most everything, and mailing a signed paper now to their dealership, I’ll begin monthly payments in mid September.

AWD with 400 miles on it, FS, grey interior. I still do not have a proper place to park in in Berkeley or San Jose yet.

dealership is holding my truck for me. They understand shipping to mainland takes time to set up and complete.

I ordered this vehicle on Tesla website for Honolulu specifically because it has free supercharging and 0% interest and unlimited satellite Starlink internet connection and also all that Foundation series offers (and lower price too)

it is brand new, but maybe it came from the dealership’s inventory, I think I’m not sure of difference between ‘inventory’ and ‘ordering’

Yup, it depends on your use case. I charge mostly at home, but I do make 700mi round trips every other weekend, so supercharging is the only option. My charge stats show supercharging 24% of my total charging, or $1,353 for the past year.

If I had to do it again, I would definitely go for free supercharging.

It does not have starlink. It has lifetime premium connectivity, which is LTE connection for streaming/maps.

I spent $250 on Super Charging in July. It can get expensive on long road trips.

Rule of thumb math for supercharging CT for highway travel at 400Wh/mi

$20 / 150mi

Assumptions (may vary)
  • 50% charge (e.g. 20% > %70) = 150mi
  • 123kwh battery x .5 = ~60kwh (3k reserve)
  • 60kwh x $0.35 (avg supercharger rate/kWh)
My advice is to compare it to what you would normally pay for gas on a road trip. As others have pointed out, if you are planning a lot of road trips, it may add up.

It depends on how much you supercharge I have free supercharging for the life of the truck and I'm trying to get my money's worth
