I think this story is fake because I don’t any matching article from ABC, NBC, or CBS.
Also, suing for 1 million is rather low for a family loss.

The story is true.

https://www.aboutlawsuits.com/tesla-cybertruck-lawsuit-defective-handle-design-fatal-burn-injuries/

This article even has a link to the lawsuit as filed in Harris County.

Note that they are also suing the bar that the deceased had departed from, because he was staggeringly drunk at the time of the accident.
aboutlawsuits should be proceeded with caution. Also, 1 million for a loss of life? Little low isn’t it? If it was fact, I don’t think CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, Fox, would ignore this

Reading the defective design claims in the lawsuit is kind of silly.

"Battery cell chemistry used is hyper volatile and susceptible to thermal runaway"

Come on.... We gonna start suing gasoline powered car manufacturers too? Since they also use a hyper volatile chemistry that is prone to thermal runaway?

It's true. All the local stories have it plus Yahoo, MSN, fortune, and a ton more.

Yes, I have been checking periodically news searches since that happened. Until now there was no identity released of the victim, it was kept quiet for a long time.

Also, the manual door release for the front door is about as accessible as it gets. It's actually more obvious than the digital microwave button that is the actual release.
every other jackass that gets in my vehicles tries to pull the manual release to get out but these people with their cars on fire never do!

ABC, CBS, NBC?
The crash itself, which happened back in August 2024, was covered by:

- KTRK, the local ABC station
- KHOU, the local CBS station
- KPRC, the local NBC station

I don't see any followup stories about the lawsuit from the TV stations, although the lawsuit was covered by plenty of other new sources. Possibly "fiery vehicle crash on local road" makes for better TV than "lawsuit filed at local courthouse".
Also, 1 million for a loss of life? Little low isn’t it?
The family is reportedly "seeking monetary damages of over $1 million". So $1 million is just the minimum.
