Looked like there was some kind of software issue. They went back and forth between limp mode and stopped.

This is a very important step in developing off road worthy aftermarket suspension upgrades. Always have to real world test the crap out of it.
they have stock suspension, will be a challenge to go fast.

I was told they didn't have underbody armor?
That is correct, the Race Truck does not have our under armor.
Since they're not rock crawling and have way more clearance than a stock CT, the added weight was not desired to help range on the course.

The question asked was about armor fitment with our Rock Sliders. I offered our solution.

The Tesla Terrestrial rocker panels and armor are limited (no step), only protects the battery.

Based off the last several decades of off-road racing, for a modified pickup truck using the stock pivot points the suspension will likely be:
-3/16” 4130 welded steel spindle , and lower control arms. 1.5” uniball pivots at all ends. Upper control arms might be billet aluminum cnc machined with 1.5” uniballs too. Maybe the spindle will be solid billet aluminum cnc . Maybe 74 weld will make portal axle spindles for it.
-unit bearings will be aftermarket (spidertax? Ultra 4 style) with Porsche 934 cv or RCV axles.
-major reinforcements to subframe and upper control arm pivots (frunk will probably be tube work for shock mounts and hydro bump stop)
- steering will probably be custom made rack and pinion suitable for trophy truck. Rear steering probably delete. 1.25” heims for tie rods.
-roll cage and all safety requirements for race cert (window nets , fire extinguishers, race harness, Ect…)
-one interesting thing about it not being a gas powered truck is you don’t have to worry about all the fuel safety requirements. No fuel cell or vents and no high flow fuel dump delivery system. Also no spare driveshaft needed , or driveshaft safety loop. No humongous transmission coolers needed either.
-I assume this thing will need to be recharged at RM (race mile) 50 lol and probably DNF at the first race (don’t feel bad , it happens a lot) .

If this thing isn’t built and race prepped by one of the reputable off-road racing shops in SoCal… good luck.

I know this stuff bc … well just look at my user name.

Great effort @ButterEV, drivers and pit crews 👏🏽! The Mint 400 course is brutal from start to finish. I had fun watching yours and the other live streams too. It seems like you all gathered a lot of information for future improvements in future races.

I had nothing stock left besides front stock pivot points on a 1G Raptor.

With steer by wire in some ways it's easier to make a tougher rack,

the issue is offroad steering shops column steered racks or swing sets are all they know..

A race vehicle could get HV DC racks,.

They also need to unlock V2V DCFC or staged battery buffered DCFC.

You could also do electric hydraulic pump. Then feed that hydraulic PS pressure to a regular pro am or something hydro rack. Steering input to the rack could be the stock steer by wire rack “piggybacked” of the big PS rack.
Portals would benefit this thing a lot just for that ground clearance.

I do like how we have vendors that are willing to take their gear and go to the rough places and find out, in some of the most public ways, how well their stuff works.
Both here and on the Rubicon our vendors have tested their equipment and assumptions first hand.
