Hi Guys,

My CT FS has the top thin panel flopping off. I stuck it up with gorilla tape and since it’s wrapped, the black does not show.

Tesla will fix it for free but will have to take it in. No mobile service. I know YouTuber DirtyTesla had this issue. Is this somewhat common? Will let you know my experience.

cheers

Yeah on the newer models they are no longer using glue to secure them. It’s some sort of rivet now I believe.

I’m assuming they will reinstall yours with that method hopefully!

OP has been under a rock! 😅

it’s pretty straight forward, probably will have to get a loaner.

you also will lost your PPF, looks like you have a wrap? You may or may not get compensation from Tesla for that.
Hopefully you get a SC with experience and they get aligned well

they should replace both sides as part of the recall.

Cantrail, part of one of the recalls
They will replace for free
You are SOL on your wrap so hopefully you have some extra PPF/Vinyl or a good relationship with the shop that did it

Have service appointment at Watertown, MA SC today. They are going to replace both the sides. Let’s see how they do.

I’ll ask about the wrap situation. I got mine done at Q Cars in Burlington, MA and they were excellent. Let’s see what they do after the service.

Been there done that with our 2024 Foundation AWD. Minimally the CANT RAIL replacement is covered under warranty and will require you to schedule an appointment with a Tesla Service Center. They will have to order the parts in advance of that. Our experience turned out to be out of the ordinary. Fortunately our closest service center is less that 2 miles from the house.

On our first visit, the CANT Rails were replaced, but the fit was really bad. The rails on both sides overlapped the front fender panels and did not align correctly at the rear. The real problem was that it was obvious that the installation was not acceptable, but the guys at the service center called it complete. When we picked up the CT, we informed the Service Center that the work was not acceptable so they scheduled a 2nd appointment.

On our 2nd appointment they had ordered another set of CANT rails, and I stayed at the Service Center while they attempted to replace the rails again (about 2 hours). This time the fit on the passenger side was acceptable, but the driver side was still a mess, overlapping the front fender panel and out of alignment at the rear. The technician even brought me into the shop so I could see what he was dealing with. Now the clearance for the CANT rail is only a few millimeters off front to back. It seems that in our case the front and rear fender panels were not aligned correctly in the grand scheme of things so there was not enough room in between for the CANT rail. This requires at least one, if not both, of the fender panels to be adjusted. Now we're talking major work that the Service Center is not equipped to do. So the Service Center made an appointment for us at their Collision Center the following week.

At the 3rd appointment, a Collision Center technician examined the CT and said they would have to order new CANT rails (this will be the 3rd set). The tech FYI informed us that to adjust the alignment on the front and/or rear fender panels required a great deal if disassembly. We were a little apprehensive about having the work done at all, with the possibility of 'what else can go wrong?'. We asked if we could reschedule the appointment for the work after the new rails arrived so we could drive the CT home and they were OK with that. So we went home to think about it.

At the 4th appointment a week later, we had decided to go ahead with the replacement so we dropped off the CT and were given a 'Model Y' loaner. The next day we got a call to say the CT was ready for pickup. When we examined the work, the results were much better. And they didn't mess anything up. All the work was covered under warranty so our only expense was multiple trips to the Service and Collision centers and of course some frustration.

So in summary, remember that this CANT Rail is a well known issue and is covered under Warranty. Don't accept the work unless they get it right.
