Fortunately, I go by release notes…not what someone says on a Forum. I see nothing in the official release notes that say that

Yeah, I'm almost entirely sure it continues to work in the background even with music playing
See the bolded section in the following quote:

aye,

so this morning i was heading into the office, and i thought to just open up the settings where the ANC option is to see what it was doing.. lol don't ask me why... 🤷

i noticed ( 2026 AWD CT) it had to calibrate again, which i thought it was a set and forget -- meaning once it calibrated when you first turn it on, there would be no need to calibrate again, but it seems it needs to do this when you get in and drive off. maybe you muggs already knew this? my dumb ass didn't...

however!!!

once it's calibrated, if you are playing music/media, the system deactivates!! it says so on the screen. if i turn the music down/off the ANC system resumes.

again maybe you all knew this but silly me i expected it to work even if music is playing? welp guess ill never get to use it as i don't normally drive sans music... ;-)

Agreed…further more, what would be the point of the system if it doesn’t work like every other basic noise cancelling system in modern headphones? If it didn’t work with music & that’s the majority of what the sound system is used for.

Again, this means nothing. I defer to the official word from the Tesla Release Notes. End of story.

And where do the official release notes say it works with music on?

Noise cancelling headphones work by having a microphone on the outside, and then applies the out of phase signal on the inside to cancel the external noise. How exactly is a microphone on the inside of your cab, where the music is playing, going to differentiate between said music and the road noise is it trying to cancel?

Serious? The system knows what sounds it is playing and doesn't cancel those sounds out. This is exactly the same way the Nintendo Switch 2 allows you to play a game with your sound system and use the microphone that is built into the system from halfway across the room and the person on the other end does NOT hear the game sounds being played on your system. Otherwise, there'd be a horrible squeal and feedback. I've seen that from people using crappy mics.

TLDR: The CT will not cancel out the sounds that the sound system produces as it knows what those sounds are.

I’m glad you handled the response…I was going to let him live & wasn’t going to dignify nonsense with a response. I salute you for being a better man that me :)

And yet, the CT makes you turn off music in order for it to calibrate.

I’m still waiting for you to show me where in the release notes it states that it works while music is playing.

Edit: Don’t get me wrong here guys, I seriously hope you are right, and I’d love to be proven wrong here. But we’ve got a post claiming it says on the screen that ANC is disabled when musics turns on, and others (namely you two) claiming it keeps working. Nobody offering actual proof.

Grok says during calibration, music off.
Once calibrated, ANC works in both conditions, music on or off.

ANC should be calibrating/listening to unique tire/road noice which it regenerates after calibrating with the negative wave.
