What an absolute moron. I've said this time and time again. It's not the vehicle, it's always the driver! 🤬
This moron went with stock wheels into the sand dunes not expecting to get stuck. I have a Cybertruck and I've driven in just about every terrain you can think of with no issue.
He needs to be grateful the tow hitch didn't get ripped off after the initial jerk pull from the recovery vehicle since it wasn't in neutral. This could've ended very badly for him. My guess is, there might actually be some structural damage even if the tow hitch didn't yank off - he'll most likely realize this during his next Service Center visit.
Disclaimer: Guys... please use your brains. Off-roading is no joke; go prepared. From proper wheels to understanding vehicle limitations to proper tools for recovery. Don't be like this idiot.
P.S. 2:21 - The kid has more sensibility than his father.

They seem to get a lot of easy money from that location pulling dumb-asses out of the sand right by the side of the road!

Stock all terrain tires work fine on dunes, if you air them down...

Stock tires are fine... IF you air down and don't have the suspension pumped all the way up. I saw that video and thought, week that was silly.

I've seen a lot of Matt's Off-road Recovery videos. I know these guys are absolute pros. But isn't it a big no-no to yank using the tow hitch ball? People have died doing exactly that.

Yes, it's a bad idea. Tow balls aren't designed for recovery pulls - they're for steady trailer towing only. Snatch loads or angles can damage the ball, mount, or vehicle (or turn it into a projectile).

Cybertruck's cast aluminum hitch adds extra risk; tests show it fails near its towing limit under heavy vertical/dynamic loads, and recovery stresses exceed that. Which was why I mentioned earlier this guy was lucky that it didn't snap off, though I truly do believe there might be a fracture in his tow hitch assembly - especially after hearing that crunching noise during the initial recovery pull (when he had his CT in Park instead of Neutral).

The CT owner was a moron, yes. But Matt was an even bigger moron since he's the pro being paid to recover someone's vehicle. Instead, he risked injury to his employee who was doing the pulling , while carelessly fucked up this guy's truck at the same time by not double checking for neutral gear before giving the go ahead. Honestly, this video pissed me off.

Edit: I made a retraction post later on in this thread based off a different video where Matt explained his reasoning for using a tri-ball for recovery.

If you are referring to Zack with a backhoe, that was application of near full trailer weight vertically. In no way is that "near its towing limit".

They are pros in the sense that they get paid, but.. I've seen them do some really sketchy shit with poorly operating or wrong equipment too many times. Still entertaining.

I stopped watching when they replaced one teenage blonde girl for another. Weird Mormon vibes became too much for me...

All he needed was 2 Maxtrax extreme recovery boards and he would have been out of there in no time.
I couldn’t believe the “pro” yanked it like that. Unbelievable.

Yeah I love to off-road in a 4x4 ATV or Dirt bike. Much more fun than a big ass expensive truck anyways!!

No f*** that guy (Zack). Every day which passes he seems more and more deranged than the previous.
I really wish I was there at the recovery to be able to check the undercarriage of the vehicle to spot any fractures or damage. 😅

My kids will be jealous!! We tried everything we could to get stuck when we were there but it was too damp!! Ended up spending a few hundred bucks on Matt's Off-road Swag instead.

Awesome pics! Low-key jealous. Their recovery channel, along with a few others, was what really got me into the whole off-roading world. I have Rhino USA tow hitch, shackles, straps, hooks, shovel, etc. in my truck at all times waiting for an opportune moment. Now, I just need to find that someone in distress.... 😅

The same can't be said for the stuck CT owner. Dude thought he could just roll in and rescue the SxS without having the right knowledge and equipment. He basically fed the YT trolls out in force to bash the CT.
