There are plenty of houses that can’t run the full 48amps. I was at a family members house and used a 120v plug to charge, painfully slow. So I was looking at the panel thinking I could install a bigger plug there but they have all electric appliances, dryer, stove, AC, and 2 heater. The panel is 150amps, which doesn’t leave enough for a full 48amp charger. This new meter would work great in their situation. It would turn up the charging amps while appliances are off and turn down while appliances are on automatically. Or they could pay thousands to get the panel upgraded. The new device would save a lot of money.
I know of many older houses with only 60 Amp or 100 Amp services. For them, something like this is vital to allow quicker recharging without blowing the bust fuses these older houses often have.

If I add a second EVSE I may have to resort to using it due to my funky 150 Amp panel.

It’s surprising to me there is a big enough market of people charging EV’s at home without enough reserve to run 48amps. Maybe that speaks to how much privilege I’m used to.
A lot of houses especially out east are very old, the 100 amp panel was common for the last 70+ years. I mean my house is almost 100 years old, i bought it with 100 amp service and only upgraded to 200amp service when i got an ev and needed an evse since it was already pretty full. It is not a cheap upgrade either.

It also offers the opportunity to add a wall connector to a travel trailer (or splitter box) and charge Cybertruck without tripping the site's 50A breaker.
It looks like current transformers that attach to both of the split phases and send how much Amperage per leg is in use to the wall connector? How do they know your total Line side capacity? I assume you configure it with the Tesla app?

Understood. It’s just when my washer and dryer and hot water heater and all three of my fridges are running as well as my AC And pool pump in Arizona, I’m pulling about 12.5 kw. Let’s say 12 for the sale of argument.
So 12000/240 is about 50 amps in my mind.
I guess some people have bigger houses but that means they are likely also more expensive houses and therefore have likely upgraded from 100amp service.
That was my logic.
I can see it’s flawed.

If I could use this to monitor power being exported via solar and push it to my car, that would be money.
