I heard Tesla is lobbying the NHTSA for no side view mirrors and no windshield wipers on the Cybertruck. Does anyone know how this is going?

Audi was granted an exemption to test side view cameras (and to identify issues and solutions) this time last year. The NHTSA has another year to rule on the matter. Other countries have already approved the use of side view displays.

Here is a link to Audi’s exemption from the drivers side outside rear view mirror. I was mistaken, as they received a 2-year exemption for up to 2,500 EVs equipped this way and they hoped that at the end of the exemption the NHTSA would rule in favor of the CMS as acceptable. They also noted that Tesla and other manufacturers petitioned the NHTSA in 2014 to change the rule:

Enjoy!

I'm fine with no side mirrors but no windshield wipers? It's not just rain, there's mud, bird droppings, squashed bugs, etc. Something has to get rid of all that.

I have no idea. But the idea is it notices it right away and uses the engy to keep it from sticking. The patent suggested it worked best on dust! Weird.
