Everyone makes their purchasing decisions for different reasons. I purchased my TRX for both its acceleration and its looks, as I did the Raptor before it. My Beast order is no different, although the Beast style is in a class of its own.

Even if the Rivian had a Plaid-like 0 to 60, it wouldn't even hit my radar because it's not a good looking truck in my personal view. I find it quite bland in fact.

To each their own though.

I think it looks good but the CT does have the looks category won hands down for me.

The new quad motor R1 isn't available and may not be available this year. If you look at Rivian's cash position, needs to ramp PPE for R2 and expanding working capital due to more SKU's = more parts variants that means they may not have enough cash left to make it to early/mid 2025. Moving upmarket with the R1 refresh is a confounding business strategy but let's see how it plays out for them.

Takeaway: the new quad R1 may never exist vs. the Cyberbeast which does very much exist. Today.
As bad as Rivian is at managing its cash flow, they are good at putting out the trucks and SUVs they advertise. Especially since this is just a different trim of an existing vehicle, I have no doubts it comes out.

Rivian is also in a unique place that they have vehicles people want and proven branding / technology. When I talk to people with high end EV purchasing power, most of them are shopping Rivian now, not Tesla.

There's plenty of investors foaming at the mouth for a liquidation sale or ability to step in and restructure Rivian. Unlike Fisker or Lordstown that just don't have any value, Rivian isn't going anywhere. It may be a different organizational structure in 5 years, but it will exist in some capacity.

Well either put all terrain ties on the Rivian or run the same tires on the CT that the Rivian was using and retest. Things will look much different.
Everyone keeps saying that. Does Tesla adjust the advertised 0-60 based on tires? Do we have a video with the 0-60 on AT tires? Surely someone has done that.

Yes it's been done multiple times by Jason in the video below. And not just on a treated sticky track.

I mean, its still batshit fast any way you slice it and congrats to Rivian. I do really hope they're no longer loosing money on every truck sold after this update. So they can survive long term.
Exactly

I guess we will have to wait and see a comparison. I do think the 2.59 achieved in the Jerry rig everything video is slower than best because of the Xtra weight

The market in America for SUV type vehicles is absolutely huge, so there is certainly an opportunity for the kinds of vehicles that Rivian makes to sell in large numbers, they just have to do it efficiently enough to get the price down.

From a personal perspective, the reason I can't buy any of the vehicles Rivian has revealed to date is I don't like SUV's. And I don't consider the R1T a truck, it's bed is too small. Too short and too shallow. And nothing about the Rivian is tough. That thin, expensive aluminum body might be OK on a passenger vehicle, not a truck. But that is just my preference.
Minus the 3rd row (which throws out lots of cargo space), the Cybertruck is as much SUV as the R1S with the functionality of a truck too. Which is my use case - an SUVish with basic truck capabilities .

I like the R1S but it’s more Honda Pilot vs suburban size… the CT just is more versatile. The R1T has very little use case for me with its smaller size and tiny bed

As a $TSLA and $RIVN shareholder I'm looking forward to both companies succeeding in their mission.

After driving a new 2024 R1T from delivery center on a 400 mile road trip, so many Tesla features I miss-- basic stuff like automatic lane changes. I'm in the "if no FSD, no purchase by me" camp.

Good on Rivian to reduce manufacturing costs and add functionality. Hopefully they make good on plans to show a profit in 2024Q4.
