There's been a broad perception that the Foundation Series gives us a single substantial feature - Full Self-Driving - and a handful of minor things. The balance of the $20K upcharge being a "tax" for being able to get a Cybertruck early.

The flip side of that perception is that when non-FS trucks arrive, they'll simply be like the FS vehicles, lacking only FSD and badging. And with the $7.5K Federal Incentive on top of the $20K reduction in price, the value proposition of that non-FS truck is going to be vastly better.

It's gonna be a little more complicated.

When you peer more closely at all those "minor" things included with the FS, it starts to become clear that that non-FS-truck-that-qualifies-for-the-$7.5K-Federal-Incentive is going to be quite a bit different from the FS trucks. And not having FSD is the least of it, since FSD can always be purchased after-the-fact, or by subscription.

Optional upgrades I think we can reasonably expect on non-FS trucks:
  • 20" Cyber Wheels w/35" AT Tires: $4,000
  • White Decor: $1,000
  • FSD: $7,000 - $8,000 (can be dismissed since it can be bought later)
  • Premium Connectivity will Require Subscription ($100 $10/mo)
  • Premium Audio: $1,000
  • Heated/Cooled Ventilated Front Seats: $1,000
Some of these will probably be combined. But the bottom line is that none of them, save FSD, can be had without bumping the base price of an AWD non-FS model above the $80K threshold for the Federal Incentive. If you want that incentive you'll have to forego any upgrades.

For many, losing the bigger wheels and AT tires is a squinty-eyed moment. Because for a lot of "truck things," they're strongly encouraged.

The premium connectivity is easy to dismiss because, hey, what's a hundred bucks a month? But that alone, over ten years, would be worth $10,000 $1,000.

Subscribe to FSD over that same ten year ownership and it's over ten grand.

That wonderful audio system that everyone talks about? You'll lose some of that.

And after enjoying heated seats on my Model 3, that Heated/Cooled Ventilated Seat option no longer strikes me as an affectation. I'd really hate to not have that.

The bottom line is that the Foundation Series Cybertruck really is a better value than a lot of people have given it credit for. Doesn't mean it's any more approachable. A hundred grand is a whole lot more than most of us have ever spent on a vehicle. But compared to the option-upgrade pricing that's coming on the non-FS vehicles, the FS trucks come off looking pretty good.
Excellent! I expect my Foundation Grey Beast will be a rare treat & have me grinnin’ from ear to ear.

Most deposits were $100 for a $40,000, $50,000 or $70,000 truck during a time of lower interest rates. You have to know that even at those lower costs, there would be a lot of non-buyers. Times have changed! Those previous non-buyers have fallen to the wayside while higher prices have generated a new class of non-buyers. I myself have had second thoughts, but approaching 77 years old and having the cash, I decided screw it, go for it and chalk it up as another of many bad decisions if it goes south.

Yes to each their own. I think a high number that passed on foundation series will also pass on truck. Goldilocks moments. Has to be just right, or perfect for me to buy. Which means one was a fence sitter, not going to be a trigger puller.

Keep waiting for that cheaper used Cybertruck Golidlocks. Might be your only option for a while, and I don't see that for 12 months, and it will be one that has a low VIN.
I would agree that high number of people will ultimately pass. In my situation it is wants versus needs. I want the Cybertruck, but I don’t need a vehicle. I have five. So for me, it is not a “Goldilocks” or “fence sitter” situation. It is Tesla finally agreeing to offer the Cybertruck as promised, ($79,900 for AWD). I got over the fact that it is 60% higher than the originally revealed in 2019. The question is how many people will /can get over that fact.

I didn't reap replied. But FSD was locked in at 7k for early res.

Random accessories can be bought over time from other brands or Tesla.

Some places get state credits. I mean the 5k CO credit alone is enough to get a lot of the accessories.

Fsd doesn't count toward the MSRP for tax incentives.

Fed credit is POS now so the total truck loan with 0 down is automatically like 72k without fees etc.

A/S tires are fine, if you want AT, we can just grab them aftermarket with the savings but I think AS is enough for most, it's not like the AT are that aggressively diff.

You won't lose the audio system that's totally a random idea. The only Teslas that ever downgraded anything like that were the rwd ones.

Model X that is 79k has heated and cooled seats.

I understand your thoughts process but I don't think we need to be worried about any of this

Not necessarily true. My 2013 Model S does not have auto folding mirrors, it was an upgrade.
Folding mirrors are standard on Teslas cheapest car

Don't want FSD, white interior, Powershare, and some of the other minor things like L hooks and d rings.

I do qualify for tax incentive and will pay less state tax for every dollar knocked off the price. Im looking at savings of $29.2k for non fs

Those that bought FS keep posting threads like this to justify their purchase. Probably a good amount of FS buyers can't really afford it comfortably either as evidenced by the amount who finance in this sky high interest environment.

Its too funny for the gotta have it crowd to be lecturing others when any sane person can see the bottom is about to fall out
Thank you. But you ordered no?

You are mostly correct. The Founders version especially with the Cyberbeast includes many optional items in the price. It’s more like $5k of extra markup not $20k. I imagine if you add everything we get with a Founders Cyberbeast to a regular Cyberbeast the up charge is only around $5k and we get ours many months or even a year before the waiters.
“Founders” version only applies to the New Roadster. It’s “Foundation Series” they are not the same.

The biggest miss on the non-FS trucks will be the lack of standard 35” meats on some trims.

I’m guessing they be standard on the CyberBeast, a $4500 option on the AWD trim and unavailable on the RWD trim.

Marketing 101 will be in play.
I would have been happy to take the higher range on road tires. My AWD model will rarely be climbing rocks even though I know it is very capable. I bought it for the tech and the novelty designer single pen design, thanks Franz, The Lotus Esprit S3 was among my favorites too.

The code suggests all existing tire options are 35"
