Yes you made a mistake. But that rule is explicitly designed to screw people over. There's literally no justification for it. It's unfairness is compounded by the fact that they have out of stock issues on a lot of their products in the store.

Good luck with Tesla support but odds are against you my friend.
Designed to screw you over ? It's says right in the details how to use it.

Well.... I didn't understand the details of the voucher program.

Picked up my truck last month and figured "hey I need a charger" so I logged on (in a hurry) and ordered the Gen 3 charger from Tesla's shop using the voucher. In my head I'm thinking "I'll come back for the rest of it later...."

Well as yall surely all know that's not how it works. Apparently I forfeited about 2 grand after buying the charger! I was absolutely shocked today when I went to check out with my cart.... I just assumed this worked like a normal gift card or credit.

Needless to say I'm mad at both myself for not reading the fine print and also a little peeved at the "system" implemented here....

Do yall think I'm doomed or is there any history of Tesla being understanding here? What department should I try to get in contact with? I'm a share holder who just bought a 100K+ truck... surly they'll be understanding here, right?!

?

Thanks for any thoughts.
Just realizing I did the same thing. Think I spent like $100 on some junk and lost the remaining $2400. What a punch to the gut.

Man I feel for you. It sucks… really hoping Tesla will show us a little leniency.

This is similar to when I learned via my account, after my purchase, that I didn’t qualify for any EV tax incentive. $7500 no go in my pocket. The Gov got to keep it all.
I was a bit miffed. However, completely on me for not looking into it.
I would have bought the vehicle anyway. ??‍♂

I think it is an accounting rationale. The transaction is closed when it comes to the truck purchase. Then a new liability was created post. They want to close that liability out, and not leaving it hanging.
actually, this creates a third transaction when they have to close out any remaining unused balance on the 2,500 credit. it's all automated anyway
it's really just Tesla being cheap with customers, and unfair.
my powershare installer said the flat $3k install price was given to them by Tesla (seems true since no one has gotten a fair install quote of materials + hours of labor )

Whatever the reason for it... it would of been nice if the sales people told me when I was picking up the truck and signing paperwork something along the lines of "BTW you need to use all that FS voucher at once when you go online." ?

When I got that email my eyes read "congratulations on your cybertruck" and then skipped down to the voucher code. I already had my cart with the UWC ready since I was wanting to get it ordered ASAP. We all live busy lives (work/kids/etc)... I don't read every email. Would be nice to have some safe guards built in for the user.

2K won't break me; I still love the truck... just will sour me a bit for a while if they don't work with me here. Especially as I order and pay for the stuff I was planning to get from the Tesla store! lol

I feel for you bro. Sorry to hear that you missed out on some accessories for the CT. Just think of it as over priced crap for the CT you will probably never use or need. That may help with you missing out on the voucher. (that's what I would tell myself)

I got my truck about 3 weeks ago and still haven't received the voucher. Even if I did all that I want is out of stock anyway. I'd like to get the spare tire (crazy we have to buy that and doesn't come with the truck) Especially for us foundation purchasers.

@Brandon708 hahaha, yeah I'll need to find a way to cope... The bed divider is one at the top of my list.

Does anyone have a good "route" through their automated phone system to speak with a human that may have some authority? Just curious if there is a department I could contact to speak with over the phone.

To me, this honestly feels like a "gotcha" trap with the fine print that Tesla specifically engineered on purpose.

Not a good look at all.

Never said anything about number. It is self closing. It has an expiration date. So it is closed once given to customer.

Tesla is a for profit company. If they can make an extra dollar they will. My guess is that people that call Tesla cheap call many things in life not fair, and should be given to them. I just don't understand it. Tesla is not a car or truck bank for the poor like a food bank.

I agree, it is close to a scam if there is no "Are you sure?" popup warning of unused credit forfeiture. ?

The rule is specifically designed to reduce people's ability to use the full credit amount. It does not prevent fraud, misuse, or any other nefarious actions by customers. So yes I feel it's only there to screw over the customers, even if they read a understood the rules, it still makes it harder to get the full value

It's not even needed for accounting purposes. The expiration date allows them to earmark the credit to a specific fiscal year.

I haven't taken delivery yet, but when I do, does the voucher have an expiration date? I was looking in the Tesla shop/cybertruck, and half the things in there are "Out-of-stock"

From what I heard, it is about a year from when you get it. I am still waiting for mine. The SC told me, "2 weeks". Go figure.
