Lost Vin, waiting for new one, should I change to Grey?

Hi Everyone,

Curious to hear your thoughts / opinions.

I ordered my AWD CT with white interior on June 27 and to my surprise a vin was assigned to me the next day. A few days later I got a message that it was time to schedule my delivery; only 1 problem....I was out of the country until July 17. I asked to schedule delivery on July 18 and was told they could not hold the truck and I would need to put my order on hold

I released the hold on July 10 figuring that within about a week or so I would get a new vin and all good, however its now been about 9 days and still no vin or any other information about my order.

I'm seeing more Grey units being delivered in Paramus NJ on the lot and wondering if I change my order to grey if I will get it faster?

Wonder if they are manufacturing in batches or making all white, then making all grey or if they are making white and grey at the same time and I should just hange tight and wait.

What do you think?

Probably got bumped. I'm not sure if you "lost your place in line".

I ordered AWD, white, all season on 6/22 and don't have a VIN. Configuration says July/August 2024 for me.

Maybe they're doing batches and you're part of the next white batch?

Sorry you missed your truck. I'm traveling for a week and hope I don't fall into the same trap.

I had very similar scenario, with a slightly different ending.

Configured my AWD w/ white interior on 6/30.
Assigned a VIN on 7/2
To my surprise, got text from Tesla SC on 7/3 saying time to schedule delivery.
Was out of state until 7/11.
Tesla SC manager says "Sorry can't hold your VIN for more than 3 days, you'll have to put your order on hold".
Tried for days to get him to call me, to no avail.
Every day I would open the app to see which delivery dates I could select from, and each day it would "light up" one day further out on the calendar.
Communications from the SC stopped, but eventually it got to the point where 7/11 was available in the app and I booked my appt.
Showed up for my delivery apptmt on 7/11 and turns out the SC manager had a family issue a few days prior and sort of left everything hanging.
My delivery rep said ALL of the new CT's they were receiving from factory were tactical grey interiors. She let me crawl around inside of one just in case I wanted to change my mind.
After seeing the tactical grey in person, I was VERY glad I chose white!
So I guess I got lucky.

OP, I would guess the reason you haven't been assigned a new VIN is because the factory must be cranking out tactical grey's to clear those orders that I'm sure were backlogged. You could potentially change your order to tactical grey interior and get a VIN immediately, but my personal preference is definitely the white. If you don't live too far from your SC I would bet they would let you check out one of the tactical grey interiors before you make that decision.

Hopefully you don't have to wait too much longer, you're going to LOVE your CT!

Wow, I probably should have just waited and kept pushing the delivery date out instead of letting them put the order on hold I can't wait to get the truck and I was so close and now it feels like so far away....checking for a vin every 5 min is driving me crazy

You should have just paid for it (in full, ahead of delivery) and the VIN would be yours.

Never pay for it in full ahead of delivery. I've bought 9 teslas so far - it's far better to just go there, check out the vehicle, make sure you like it before paying. Otherwise it's a pain to deal with

What do you mean don't pay in full before delivery? Don't you have to make your final payment before delivery day? They will just refund the payment - $1000 order fee if you don't accept delivery wont they?

I disagree. If you want the truck and don’t want to wait some indefinite period, just pay ahead of time. Chances are the truck will be fine but you may put in a service request for any minor issues that are there.

This obviously doesn’t work for anyone that needs to feel like they were totally in charge of the process and somehow got a special vehicle because of their demands.

Just looked at vin and it seems “old” 12087 worried it sat in a lot for a while. Any thoughts on that vin??

Customer reject? Factory rework? I personally would not accept that old VIN. Fresh Cybertruck's should be in the 24xxx VIN range by now.
