Well it happened. Left my two dogs in the truck in Dog Mode and while I was having breakfast in the restaurant I got an alert on phone that truck door opened. One of the dogs stepped on the door button and dogs were able to push door open and yep, went running. Did get help recovering the dogs but what a joke.

It is really screwed up that dog mode only locks the back windows, and now to find out that the door unlock button works also? Unacceptable. My dogs love pushing the window buttons and door unlock button. I don't have faith in dog mode at all right now. I would hate for my dogs to get out and something happen to them.

I hope they do something about this. Wish someone who has contact with Tesla can inform them and update this Dog Mode function. Nobody can get locked in the truck using the screen, phone, key card or manual pull levers so being trapped is not an issue if that's why they chose to allow door locks to be used still.

I agree. We need to make this issue go viral to force Tesla to do something about this. Maybe Teslarati or someone else that publishes stories can write an article about it to increase visability?

@greggertruck Can you help increase visibility of this on your X feed?

This is safety feature. They can’t disable the main button that opens the door. Put something over if you know your dog can press the button.
they can do whatever they want. It's just a software change. They block window buttons from being powered in Dog Mode so now they need to change it up and make lock buttons do the same. A cover will not keep any dog or animal from pushing the button. Besides, are you going to glue a piece of plastic, cardboard, etc to a 100k truck? Not me.

Well, the owner's manual needs to be updated as it currently says dog mode locks all windows... nope only the back... Also, it needs to be very clear that the door buttons still work also. @Cybertruck 1974 's dogs could have been killed and he had no idea about this limitation.

Additionally, there are multiple safety features already built in the Cybertruck, like the manual door release, the app, the touchscreen, etc. that people can use if they are stuck in the truck.

I use dog mode all the time and I've never had an issue with the doors/windows being opened by the dogs, and they certainly know how.... ?

Ok, I was going to post the above, but I figured out the difference in my case rather quickly: I have child lock on the back windows/doors and the door seat cover I use is tall enough that my dogs can't reach the front seat.

Could a back/front seat mesh barrier do the trick for you?

I have the dog seat cover with a tall barrier. However, my boxer and German Sheppard easily can (and does) jump over it and land on the center console. They love the front seat a lot more than the back. They won't appreciate if I seatbelt them in and honestly my German Sheppard would just try to chew the seatbelt.

I use something similar to this, I've had it for a long time so I don't remember what the actual brand is

I guess if your dog must be in the front, then yeah, my suggestion sucks.

That’s a you issue. What if there is an emergency and a person needs to get out of the vehicle? Tesla cannot software lock the doors from use. That’s illegal AF

The door buttons are supposed to work! It’s a safety issue for humans. What if someone needs to emergency exit the vehicle? Are they supposed to exit dog mode first? No that’s dumb.

That seems like a good product, and might work for my case. But still unsure if they will try to take it down. Also, if dog mode is based on the assumption that your dogs will stay in the backseat, then that needs to be very clear in the owner's manual, or the dogs can escape quite easily through the front seat.

Also, do the back seat door unlock buttons work during dog mode?

First off, why not state that dog mode should be used for pets only. Not humans. If you have a human in there, just leave the car on while you do your errands.

And how hard do you think it is to push a software update and have a big "door unlock" button on the screen, plus you have a freakin very accessible "emergency door open lever" in the front seats.

You truly don't get our point. Dog mode is designed for pets, not humans. People should have faith that if they activate dog mode, then their pets are safe. Right now, it does not suit that purpose. I know I will not use the mode unless additional pet safety measures are adopted.
