I find this baffling. Look at the facts:

1) You rented your vehicle as a business.
2) The renter crashed your vehicle.
3) The renter is insured.
4) The estimated damages are $27K, but neither you or the renter have a good idea what the actual damages are or how long it will take to return to service.
5) The renter wants to bypass reporting the event, and pay out of pocket.
6) You are fine with that.

What am I missing here? What would have been wrong with telling him you preferred to go through insurance? Isn't that why we all pay insurance premiums? Isn't that the entire purpose of insurance?

OK, it's your life, your decisions. Just know that it's a lot easier to learn the easy way from other people's mistakes (rather than having to make all the mistakes yourself). In this case, you are making the learning first-hand. Good luck with that! No one lives long enough to make enough mistakes to become wise, only by observing others mistakes, and applying that knowledge to situations in your life, can one make good decisions.
Insurance goes with the vehicle. It would be on the owners insurance. The dude that was driving, his insurance would deny. The owners would also deny once they found out what shenanigans were in play.

He ‘could’ say he was loaning it to him, permissive use is what that would be considered, but that only flies if the person using the car is an actual friend or family member. The owners insurance will have to do little to no research (and you better believe they will for a 30k claim) to determine the facts of the accident, then they will deny and hit the owner with insurance fraud.

The specifics may vary by state but in general this is how it goes.. it’s a whole thing, I’ve looked into it quite a bit since I also deal with people complaining about Turo’s fees. $500/day isn’t worth losing your house and possibly more.

This is not my experience renting vehicles.

My insurance specifically covers rentals.

If his denied, that could be fraud on his part.

They could simply remove the flash drive. They could even mount it in a computer and manually delete the files, then replace the drive and you would not know (assuming they remember to "empty the trash").

So yeah, you would want a secondary location that can't be so easily accessed/removed. Seems like it should be part of a crash detection system.
Does the glovebox can be set open by pin?

Youare talking about renting vehicles from big company. Renting out from the private owner is whole different story

So you're saying they're more likely to commit fraud against companies less likely to defend themselves?

Interesting position, probably true, but my policy covers rental no matter the size of the company.

I will never rent or loan my CT, a home or even a flashlight to anyone, including family...a very irresponsible society.

The fact the the individual renting the vehicle deleted the footage is highly suspicious and would violate my trust.

Best of luck OP.

Speaking of this, I let a kid borrow my snow shovel last year as he was stuck in front of my house. The kid gets himself unstuck using my snow shovel and then steals it..

It was rented out; and this is how I got it back. Driver is accepting responsibility but out of commission for 2-3 months.

Estimate is $28,000 and 7 weeks. It’s been 3 weeks sorting out the estimate

Hope to have it back on the road by mid September

I don't even ket my own wife drive my Cybertruck. Nevertheless an stranger ?

I have so many questions,. Is the income you are making form it worth it? How much do you rented for? Does the insurance covers the time that is not being rented? This really sucks and sorry this happened to you. ?

I am curious about how you are able to even consider an insurance claim with renting the vehicle out personally? I have rented my CT on turo a handful of times and always get asked, " Can we rent outside of turo to avoid the fee's" ... I have contacted my insurance USAA and they said only to family members... Then I called this random persons insurance (progressive), and they said that he would have to add the CT to his policy in order for it to be covered.

I’d be willing to bet client pulled out in front of vehicle he didn’t see. The blind spots are real ESPECIALLY for new CT drivers.
The blind spots aren't that bad. No worse then other cars I've drive.

Client says he hydroplaned. Deleted dash cam suggests it might have been alcohol related. So the less I know the better as long as I get it fixed
So he deleted the dash cam, and ran into something. I think it’s highly likely he may have been involved in a hit and run. Are you are ok with being an accomplice to covering up a crime? If he did in fact hit another car and they trace it back to your truck, then you will be personally liable, and this thread can be used as evidence.

I have made about $10,000 since delivery April 10th. The loss revenue is my loss. Cost of doing business. The daily rental is $500. Or $250 for 6 hours. Or $100 for an hour and I stay with the truck.

You might be correct. But I have no way of proving anything and there are lots of crimes that I have nothing to do with.
