First time EV owner here. Any thoughts on the useful life of the CT. Since its new, I know it's difficult to predict, but what kind of mileage can be expected before replacing major components. The warranty would indicate the 150k plus is a safe bet.

Tks.

400,000 miles should be pretty much guaranteed without any serious failures. At some point wheel bearings and motor bearings go out. Batteries continue to degrade, but not many fail outright. All of these things can be replaced when necessary.

CT should get a conservative battery cycle life of 1500 full 100% to 0 cycles. Or 400,000 miles -ish before degradation makes it unfeasible to use it as a vehicle. Then as stationary storage…. A long time.

Using a more conservative daily charge limit of 75% max and not discharging below 30%. It should do north of 4000 full equivalent cycles. Or over 1 million cycles.

I’d expect to go through an A/C compressor every 10 years or so. And probably the corresponding system if it gets debris in it. Same with any coolant pumps, though those should last more like 15 years.

And the typical things like wheel bearings, ball joints, suspension bushings every couple hundred thousand miles.

But I think some/ many Cybertrucks will be turned into stationary storage sometime after 15 years and then go another 10 years or so. Infotainment, interior, etc is going to be pretty old and worn out in 15 years.

What is stationary storage? A junkyard? Or use them as a battery backup for a house?

I hope to be able to completely refurbish my cybertruck in 10 years. I know it's a longshot but if they no longer make this body style I think it would be awesome to swap out the motors, replace the battery, and reupholster the interior to give it another 10 years.

Yes I know that will be expensive and difficult. Whether I do that will depend on what else I could buy at that time. They'll probably be some pretty cool new stuff but who knows.

I used to keep gas cars for 10 years or more but I have a really hard time keeping an EV that long since I want the latest technology.
Tesla makes that even hard. My 6 year old Model 3 basically has better technology than it did when new.

Battery backup for a house. Assuming that PowerShare grows in capability to include time of day load shifting, charging on solar, etc. It could be as simple as plugging in the truck and letting it stay parked.

Vehicle pack to battery storage hasn’t taken off yet as a secondary market, but eventually, maybe, it makes sense.

Take a look Page 35 2023-tesla-impact-report.pdf

Cars are possing 200k miles and continuing strong.

Why isn't it showing 300k miles? The Model 3 is only 6 years old, just not enough vehicles with that amount of mileage yet.

Why not the Model S/X? Not enough vehicles to be statistically valid, compared to the Model 3 and Model Y. (Model 3 and model Y combined are in the neighborhood of 5,000,000 vehicles sold)

2012-2018 MS/X owners start to worry and see higher frequency of battery failure at 200-250k miles. This isn't super useful to CT as, these are older cars, different types of batteries, and it's not everyone. There are some that make it far past that, but some that die in the first 20k miles.

My point is that an EV will last about as long as the average ICE vehicle before an engine/transmission issue where the motor and battery are the first failure point on an EV/Tesla.

Tesla motors beginning with the Model 3, according to Elon, are rated for 1,000,000 miles.

There are already Model S’s with 400,000+ miles.

This one actually has over 1,000,000 miles. Remember this car was built prior to the model three so don’t be overly concerned about all of the motor replacements.

Bottom line you’re gonna be fine. It’ll drive as long as you want it to.

If I am not mistaken, you may be mixing up a few items.

AFAIK, the Model 3 batteries, a number of years ago, were on track to hot 300,000 miles expected lifetime.
The Million mile batteries were mentioned for the Semi.

And the drivetrain comment, is I believe, everything between the battery and the wheels. Hence the comment about the gear wear.

But still, 300,000 and over is pretty dang good! Very few vehicles last that long. (Except for Semis and cabs)

I didn’t say ā€œbatteries,ā€ I said ā€œmotors.ā€

And for each assertion I made I provided a link that fully explains it so no I didn’t mix anything up.
