So I scheduled a demo drive at my local Tesla repair center. A couple of clicks later, and I was behind the wheel of a new AWD (not Foundation, not Beast).
After waiting almost five years, I was beyond excited. It's so frickin' cool. First Tesla demo for me, so I didn't know what to expect. First off, I was surprised there was no shifter lever or knob. Sales rep tells me it's all on the touch screen. So I touch R for reverse, then D for drive, and off we go.
The yoke is worthy of Cybertruck, I'm not sure anything else would be. Cybertruck is big, it feels roomy, and wow! I just loved it. It was way better than I expected, when I was cruising at 35 mph or so, I punched it, and 600 horses came alive. It laid me back in my seat!
Four wheel steering feels intuitive, but the best thing was the brakes. In roughly 20 minutes of tooling around, I never touched the brakes. The regen braking does it all, for the most part. So it used to be programable, but they've since made it max regen only, which is what I would choose anyway. I think only if you're really speeding would you need to use the brake. Asked the sales rep if the brakes will last 100,000 miles, and he replied "at least". He said it's very rare that a Tesla is brought in for brakes. How cool is that?
So, if I was in love with this thing before, I'm obsessed with it now. I'm literally Psycho For Cybertruck.
So, to summarize, the AWD is obviously in current production now. It was great to drive the actual model I'll be getting, and know this: you're gonna love it.
