Auto park has been fun, but definitely not perfect.

I had a driver in Irvine cut me off while in the middle of parking, and the CT handled it great.

However, today I had multiple people cross in front while in the middle of auto parking and had to engage the breaks, because the CT didn’t stop.

I also had an issue where it chose to park in a walkway and didn’t recognize a curb.

Not sure we’re ready for FSD anytime soon. What do you guys think?

I’ve only tested in an open parking lot 5-6 times using different approaches. Every time it backed into the parking spot.
Does yours only back in?

Front or Rear? For me they were all in the front. Shown on screen, but CT didn’t stop.

The front of the truck is deceptively short. What looks close is still very far away as the bumper camera will confirm.

Chuck Cook did a video many months ago testing auto park on his Model Y when he noticed the vehicle didn't yield for an oncoming vehicle when it pulled forward before backing into a parking spot. He had to apply breaks to stop it from pulling into the oncoming lane.

I haven't done enough testing with it myself, but for most use cases it'll probably be just fine.

To no one in particular:

Brakes: device to slow a vehicle or bring it to a stop.
Breaks: implies something broke.
"He had to apply breaks, by getting out of vehicle and taking a long drag on a doobie followed by getting back inside then repeating three more times, to stop it from pulling into the oncoming lane."

see you misunderstood

Mine has always backed into the parking spot. We also tested multiple times with someone moving infront and behind it while auto parking and it has stopped every time. We have also not had any issues in regular parking situations.
My wife has stopped ours once because she was concerned about how far back it was going. I've got a friend that stopped his once because of a pole he was concerned about. Neither of these instances we are sure there really was a concern but we didn't want to find out.

I’ve only used it once, but seemed slow. Had cars waiting for me on both sides, so killed it and pulled in myself. I like the back-in part, as I always prefer to back-in vs. pull into a parking slot. The only other thing I noticed is that when I did find parking places without any predicted parking lot traffic, I got nervous on how far it backed in … I hit the brake, as I was afraid it was going to hit the car behind me. Even the 3D depiction showed I was over the back line. Still need more time playing, just my initial perceptions.

How close were they? I've never had autopark pull that far forward.

Worked perfectly a few times but scared the crap out of me in underground garage. Self park was trying to back into a space and aggressively positioned itself and nearly crashed into round cement support structure of building. I hit the brakes but still am not sure if it would have stopped in time. It felt very confident in what it was doing.

Maybe a bit too confident for my liking.

As with FSD, I'd disengage if you aren't comfortable instead of finding out if it's gonna hit something. But I bet it wouldn't hit pedestrians.
