No strikeouts for watching your phone and you can apso rest your hands on the sauircle if you want to type. Yes, it moves, that's a minus, but at least it reminds you that something is going on outside.

OMG, that scares the crap out of me.

First, significantly blocking forward version.
Second, getting the arms and hands tied up in it when turning.

And then there's the problem with eyes focusing that close and having to go back to the road.

Hands free laws were created to reduce distracted driving. This is the antithesis of the laws.

Its not ideal, but it wont block a lot of the view of the road. I recommend mounting something on the dash like you have for your radar detector.

Your Pocket.

Edit: Sorry I thought the title was a question. You people trying to figure out how t drive distracted are going to ruin this for everyone wanting to use FSD(Unsupervised)

Edit: I re-read OP and I saw he wants to type on the phone. I retract my below statement. If it was just for GPS or to see notifications, it would be ok.

I have to assume everyone complaining about safety here never speeds, rolls through stop signs, merges without blinkers or any of the 1000 other best practices for safety. There is a saying about glass houses most of us know.

Its possible to be safe with a display in front of you. Dont believe me? Just look at the millions billions of other cars on the road as an example...

None of those things are remotely akin to what the OP is suggesting. The only thing remotely close to that from a danger-to-other-drivers perspective is DUI.

If the OP had proposed the best place to stash his flask of whiskey so it was handy, but the cops wouldn't see it... it'd be about the same thing.

Sheesh.

Clearly a joke. But I just love reading how everyone here is such good rule followers and don’t use your phones at all while in the car. We need a poll where these people live because here in Los Angeles just take a look over and you will see every single human on the road is on there damn phone ? stop it bro you all know you still use it some times.

just wear sunglasses problem solved. ? flame me

Funny you guys think that I'm joking, but I'm not.

A little bit of background: I am using FSD since it was released to the wider public on my 2019 MXP (~2 years or so) and while it did stupid things before, but I learned its tricks and I am confident in recognizing the traffic situations where I can trust it. One of these is when going straight either on an empty highway or in a stop-and-go traffic. I had no accidents with it ever.

So when trying out cars with internal cameras (the 2019 MXP does not have one and it basically lets you do whatever you want while driving if you touch the steering wheel when it asks you to do so), it was annoying that it buggered me all the time even when my attention shifted to my phone just a few seconds too long in a safe situation.

That's why this solution is the best: you can read your message on your phone, occasionally type a reply without being bugged by the FSD that you are not looking at the road. Your peripheral vision will still have the road and it is much better than looking at the phone on either of the sides. If the squircle turns, you definitely do not want to look at your phone, so it does not matter if the phone moves with the squircle.

I do have a secondary phone holder wired up on the left side, but that's mostly for others driving the car. I prefer the one on the squircle over that one.

A phone holder or tablet behind the squircle can actually work, too and it's probably better if you pair your phone with a bluetooth keyboard and touchpad. ?

Unnecessary....I Have my phone mounted to the left upper corner of the screen. And I can comfortably lean my arm and hand on top of the CT screen (to "anchor" my hand to better use the phone) and control the phone when needed, and use it/text/whatever....and FSD doesn't bug me at all.....phone stays in field of view and even though my hand/arm is up towards it, it doesn't detect it as distracted.....

Same for me but I can still keep my right hand, or wrist, on the squarcle and use my steadied index finger to access the phone screen, works great, hands on the controls and phone in full view while looking forward. Hence, mounting the phone directly on a moving squarcle appeared to be a joke as it is a moving mounting platform where ours is stationary and steady. Looks like OEM equipment, also.

Nobody here uses the talk to text built into the Tesla software? It reads the text messages and gives you an opportunity to respond using the microphone button.
