Have you noticed that your wifi goes slow/offline daily around the same time? I have been experiencing this daily around 6 pm-6:30 pm, and all activity is Tesla-related. today it uploaded ~38 GB around 6pm. Is there any way to change the timing of these uploads late night?

I don’t take ownership of my CT until Saturday (yay!) but noticed a similar trend with my Model Y in the past. I ended up throttling the device through my router and firewall settings (Unifi) from 8AM until 9PM, and letting it run unrestricted during all other hours. If there is a software update, I just disable that setting for 24 hours.

It uploads when awake. Shifting your charging time should move the upload to that time span.

It uploads as soon as it connects to your Wi-Fi after a drive I've noticed.

150GB per day sounds way high. Are you sure that number is correct? For comparison, my CT uploads 10-30GB per day depending on how much driving I do

Yep, it will upload video data for training. The amount really jumped once FSD was deployed, which is expected.

You nailed it. The truck is probably compressing the telemetry, then re-compiling during the upload.

My CT uploads 0.00 Byte from my router.

I've never setup wifi from my router. I only use Hot Spot from phone when got a notice on screen for new software update available. So Tesla can upload as many as they want.

Great post, I’m glad you identified this

My internet mysteriously slowed down once I enabled FSD and now it makes sense

I looked into the traffic on our network. It only uploads when its plugged in and connected to Wifi. We have our chargers set to charge 12am-6am and during that time each car makes several different uploads for roughly 100GB each. Does anyone know the Teslas storage capacity?

Tesla should probably do a speed test before performing the upload of the driving videos for the training servers and if the upload would not complete in under two hours not perform the upload. If your upload speed is slow, the time to upload which requires the vehicle to be awake, could be quite long. In places where electric rates are high (like California), two hours of upload time could use more than 0.5kW which at 50 cents/kWh could add up monthly.

It uploads as much as it can while the vehicle would already be on. It's not using an appreciable amount of additional electricity.

Wow, and I thought the average daily upload of 6GB of data from my Cybertruck was high.

150GB?!?! WOW!! How far on average do you drive every day, @shahfarh ?

The cybertruck is crushing through my Comcast data cap each month. October was 460gb and Comcast only gives you a 1.2tb cap per month.
Look at the privacy settings, I believe that you can disable it.
