Kids only touch the hot stove once.

You want the rubberized playground of the 2000's? Get a Rivian.

You buy that 1980's chain link swingset on rusty metal poles over raw asphalt, make sure you don't fall off.

(seriously though, I hope you recover quickly)

I didn’t slam my finger in the door but I did go to close it by grabbing the inside handle and jerking then moving my hand out of the way and BAM hit the inside of my wrist on the right side of the inner door frame.

The pain was immense, felt like I broke my hand. Gods it was sore forever and I have a scar to prove it

Has anyone slammed their finger on the CT door. I was trying to avoid finger prints and I accidentally slammed my finger in the CT door. Be careful when you shut the door so it doesn’t happen to you. I needed three stitched. I will save you from my photos.
Not yet, but I’m 6’5” tall and the truck was in the entry setting. I was trying to quickly move my coat from the back seat so a coworker could get in and slammed the top of my head soo hard into the steel at the top of the door that It left a bump and a sore. Glad I didn’t scalp myself more than I did.

Dumb about-to-be-n00b actual owner question:

Everyone seems to know what the “protected top edge” is on the door. For those that don’t have the truck yet, where exactly is that? I’m not clear on what people are referring to on the door just by looking at about a thousand cybertruck photos over the years. Can someone sk00l me and post a photo with a circle around where this is so I can become an initiated acolyte of the protected top edge society? I’m sure this seems simple but it isn’t intuitive to me since I don’t have my truck nor have I ever touched one and I pick mine up this weekend. I have a fondness for my digits so I would like to keep them intact.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Round house kick it closed!

I grab the rubber seal on the top, the same one I grab to open it. I figure worst case I close the door's rubber seal on my fingers. The owner's manual specifically warns about using keeping hands away from the opening edge, especially with pinch point created by the rear door. I just deal with fingerprints from passengers, I'd rather clean off those than their blood.
I found myself using elbow ever since I am getting static shock using my hand.

It’s becoming more evident thread by thread Tesla should implement a competency test in order to be able to purchase this Truck

This is the first thing I noticed at delivery: you're naturally directed to open the door by pulling on the trailing end of the exterior window seal. While this area is beyond the window, it is stressing to the component.

To close the door without touching the exterior, there is nothing in the door jamb to grasp except for the same window seal. This is even worse for wear-and-tear of this admittedly-inexpensive part:

I really like the door-jamb handles I installed. Of course, I am aware of the finger risk and use appropriate caution:

I have the jam handles and like them allot. For the life of me I can’t figure out how someone would or could slam their hands in the door using them. You flip them with your finger back handed and walk away

I almost jammed my finger but could recall how I would have done it since the door requires a shove to close it. Still trying to figure out how it happened to anyone, what was it. Seems like you would need to place hand/finger and then close door with other hand or someone else closes the door on you?

You're all doing it wrong. You need to use your head when you close the doors. Works great!

Has anyone seen how Elon Musk closes the CT door? If you watch the video from 2019 you'll notice he doesn't touch the stainless steel at all. Remember that the window glass is much stronger than normal auto glass. Elon knew this. He uses the glass window as a handle. So do I. Go and test your window. You'll notice its not like other cars window glass. The glass is strong and can withstand a grip on the edge to close the door. Yes, you will have fingerprints on the glass. Alternatively, when getting out of the vehicle I often use the back side of my upper arm to close the door. This method is a no look door close. Both of these methods don't leave fingerprints and you won't smash any fingers.

Fingerprints are better than stitches. I have some of those "retarded" aftermarket handles. I don't recommend them unless you like stitches.
I added inexpensive drawer pulls to the inside surface of truck's doors and use them frequently. My passengers are typically unaware of them, so they don't use them.

It's not clear to me how using these pulls to close the door is more likely to cause me to close the door on a finger than opening or closing the door by holding its edge.

Imagine... I've unlocked the door to enter the car and the door is slightly opened by the truck. I reach under the edge of the door to open it (without the added pullk/handle) and something causes the door to slam closed (wind, someone pushing on the door, etc...); result: damaged fingers. Now, imagine the same scenario with the added pull/handle; result is the same.

In the case of closing the door using the pull/handle; the door is open and rather than put my fingers or hand on the door to swing it shut, I use the pull and simply do not leave my hand or fingers behind the edge of the door when it shuts. I think I would have to make some extra effort to keep my hand in a position that would cause injury as the door is near closing. Of course that situation is possible, just like any of the other countless ways of accidentally injuring yourself.

As always, YMMV (especially if you're careless...)

Closing the door via the window is probably OK?

However, DeLorean owners after a few years started having their windows pop off the track. It was thought to be a defect, but then it was discovered that these owners were closing the door by pressing on the window to avoid the fingerprints. Repeated stress induced the failure.
