I have seen several references to Elon not wanting to reverse power a house from a Tesla mostly stating it would degrade the batteries. On the other hand, F-150 Lightning will have a 80 amp 240 Intelligent Backup Power System which will power a house for days. I really feel this is an important feature for the Cybertrk given it utility and large battery pack. I have held off buying a generator or Powerwall just with a hope that he will still make this happen.

Acting as a battery backup, the Ford is every bit as good as the Tesla. Maybe better. Depends largely on price/ kWh.

Unlike any previous Tesla, there is a 220v outlet on the Cybertruck so using the Cybertruck as a manual battery backup for your home can be done fairly easily. Just takes a bit of know-how.

Ford has built it into the Power Adapter to make it easy. Flips between charging and powering the house automatically with outages.

I get what you are saying and it makes a lot of sense if you have regular long outages. I am not sure how much that will cost and typically we have an outage only for a day or less every couple of years or so. I don't think I want to spend $12-15k on backup system with a large propane tank in the backyard when I could just use my Cybertrk for such a quick temporary situation with a powerpack I already paid for.

Keep in mind there is some very expensive automatic switching which needs to be installed at your power meter if you are going to do that.

Whether you switch manually or automatically, you need a switch that transfers your power source cleanly from grid tied to your back up system.

Yep, I understand that, but I will need it no matter what backup system I use.

If you are shopping for a truck that can also power your house in a pinch, then I think the Tesla is nicer in a lot of ways.

If you are shopping for a home battery backup that you can occasionally drive... the Ford may just be the clear winner here.

We don't have the final specs or feature list on either truck so it's still up in their air, but that's the current score from where I'm sitting.

I have no plans to buy anything but the CyberTrk. I just want my cake and eat it too :) I am around 5,000 on the list for a tri, if the order really matters.

5,000?

In that case you definitely want to go with the F150. In fact you should just ask for your Cybertruck refund today. Give me your email and Tesla password and I'll take care of it for you...

Living off-USA in Panama the grid is seen as a source of power. Yes it goes down alot - 1950’s americana a lot. Recent civil disobedience the grid went down disrupting the event. On purpose by authorities.

Elon should emergency switch Cybertruck future-proofing power other than electrical failure.

He did indeed say that but it was quite a while ago. But I take his point and would not consider using my truck as a backup battery until such time as I am told that its battery is in fact, the "million mile" one.

If I understand things correctly it has 80A (19.2 kW) charging capability but only 9.6 kW inverter capacity (40A).

I really feel this is an important feature for the Cybertrk given it utility and large battery pack.
What constitutes a reasonable backup system for a house depends on the statistics of how you use power and the statistics of power failures in your area and what you want to protect yourself against. For my situation using the battery in my CT as a backup has 0 appeal.

I have held off buying a generator or Powerwall just with a hope that he will still make this happen.
I wouldn't count on it happening soon. Tesla already has a product that is intended to back up your house (for short periods). If Tesla is smart, and they tend to be, they will wait to see how the public responds to the Ford offering. If people start cancelling CT orders because the CT won't feed a house then they may change their position.

That explains all the freezers!

Still, I'd druther the truck run my optionals than the generator. Do you have it buried, too, per chance? I hate the noisy thing. Only run it to refill the batteries and take a shower. (And refreeze the fridge).
