In a pinch, pee on door handles, they will thaw right away. Not recommended for females.
You are never borrowing my car.

An intermittent wipe would use way less energy than heating the glass over hours.
Except in the case of freezing rain.

I'd still expect the wiper motion to reduce heating load. Plus some intermittent wiper spray with antifreeze will also create a layer to prevent bonding.

Why?

Seems to me it's easier to take ice off a smooth surface than a delicate one like wipers sticking out into the ice.

-Crissa
Nah the trick is the gap where the panel would open... the ice gets stuck in those gaps and prevents it from opening....my wife's Jeep patriot rear hatch needs to be kept fastidioisly clear of ice or it won't open. that's my issue with a concealed wiper. major pain in the butt.

Have you had any issues opening the hood before you start your car in the morning and peeling out the wiper?
I used to live in Russia, where we have real winters every year for 25 years. I had never had issues opening a hood despite how frozen and icy it was. It was much easier than to clean windshield. If Tesla has a top second "frunk" just for the wiper with a heating zone, I do not see any issues taking any longer than regular defrost mode for the windshield. Of course, if you have a snow pile on your car you would anyway sweep it away from the windshield and hood if you do not want all this snow on your windshield after taking off and gaining some speed.

a buddy of mine had a car with pop up headlights.... the suckers froze shut every northern Canadian winter, just like a concealed wiper would be sure to. A hood is not an equivalent comparison, Comrade.

a garage is no option ( condo ) and frost guards freeze into immovable lumps that you then need to crack into a smaller shape to fit it into your vehicle. they don't last very long doing that several times a day for a few months every year. I used one, for one winter 30 years ago. never again. those are for a Vancouver winter, not a real northern BC winter.

Nope. Used to trash. You have to delicately chisel your wipers out of ice and you like it.

For some reason.

-Crissa
lol no one said I liked it - it's simply the better option than having no wipers at all! ( because they'd be stuck under a metal flap that couldn't open ).

You gave me an idea. If I make millions, I won’t tell a soul. (A CT will appear at your residence as a thank you) If it does not pan out, you still won’t hear from me,
