I'm planning to buy a Lightning Pro as a gap vehicle. Wish that wasn't a necessity.

Elon has been saying this for months now. They aren't going to launch a new product until it makes financial sense. They can't keep up with demand on their most profitable models. Once that demand cools the Cybertruck will start production.

All you crazies need to stop buying Model Ys!
Sorry. lol I need a car.

Not introducing any new products this year.

So 2022 is definitely off the table for Cybertruck.
That is really disappointing. And he followed with a maybe for next year. Seems like he doesn’t love the CT as much as he said. Really he is focusing on Optimus, FSD and making more of the same cars. Might as well shut this site down for a couple years. Doesn’t seem like we will be seeing many CT owners any time soon. Looks like I should go get in line at the Ford dealership and let them slap me around.

Personally this is fantastic news, more production means more profit. CT will need alot of production rampup.

They are going to spend the next year working on a better wiper.
I hope the CT ships with a wiper cover that looks like a wiper itself to make it seem like the wiper is still a BAW just to troll us during delivery and a message on the CT display that reads “Haha, you thought it shipped with the BAW, didn’t you? It’s just a cover, remove it to see the new reasonably sized wiper.”

Just for shits and giggles. ??‍♂?

This will be a funny joke when they ship in Q3 2026.

Affordable CT, I bet that is one reason it is delayed, 40k CT is close but will cost more for profit.

Basically Elon just said they can't start building any CyberTrucks in 2022, they are isn't enough chips. He went on to say he is HOPING they can bring out new models in 2023 like the CyberTruck, Semi, Roadster and Optumus Bot. Hopefully.

What I heard was: 2022 is totally off the table for the start of CyberTruck production, and there is no guarantee production will start in 2023.

I know many were hoping for 2022 but that is dead.

So the biggest constraint on Cybertruck volume production will be how to make all the technology packed into it affordable.

Sounds like they are nowhere near exiting the Alpha phase and don't have a solid idea yet what the final product will cost.

That was just a question. The robot isn't taking up supplies and factory building, which are the constraints on Cybertruck.

Elon was very clear. There are not enough chips. They would have to stop making Model Ys to start making CyberTrucks and use those chips.

CyberTruck is 100% dead for 2022. And he only said he was "hoping" to bring out new models in 2023, including the CyberTruck, Semi, Roadster and Optmus Bot.

That was concerning. There is no certainty Tesla will start delivering the CyberTruck in 2023.

Ramping up Model Y with the 4680 this year in Austin will give a good baseline of performance and honing the factory output for when the CT is eventually made. Also, Giga Austin will be better ramped up (staff training, machine calibration) by the time CT gets produced. All good things IMO.

I'm fine with next year. I'd rather Tesla get the CT right in terms of perfecting the new technologies, the design etc. before producing it. Don't rush it on my account.

This wasn’t the impression I got. At least not that chips were the constraint.

He said they were focused on increasing volume and that if they introduced new vehicles it would reduce production. If chips were the constraint, shipping fewer vehicles wouldn’t be a concern because they would need fewer chips.

They want to hit 1.8m - 2m vehicles per year. The 15k Cybertrucks they might have shipped in 2022 would be a drop in that bucket.

Why is it concerning?

The lack of chips is annoying. I still don't have a PS5, I still can't order one.

-Crissa
It's concerning because Elon said that it was pencils down on engineering CT many months ago, now he's saying design and engineering to make it affordable is the "biggest challenge". That's a HUGE 180 for the ~1M people who have preordered one based on the original specs and price.
