I know of many older houses with only 60 Amp or 100 Amp services. For them, something like this is vital to allow quicker recharging without blowing the bust fuses these older houses often have. There are plenty of houses that can’t run the full 48amps. I was at a family members house and used a 120v plug to charge, painfully slow. So I was looking at the panel thinking I could install a bigger plug there but they have all electric appliances, dryer, stove, AC, and 2 heater. The panel is 150amps, which doesn’t leave enough for a full 48amp charger. This new meter would work great in their situation. It would turn up the charging amps while appliances are off and turn down while appliances are on automatically. Or they could pay thousands to get the panel upgraded. The new device would save a lot of money.
If I add a second EVSE I may have to resort to using it due to my funky 150 Amp panel.
