That's absolutely true before an order is placed but ... after an order is placed based upon those clearly stated conditions?

I dunno but if I was an attorney (I'm not) I might think about fighting it. I can't see letting Tesla retroactively change their stated conditions after the non-refundable deposit order is placed no matter the amount.
Your $250 down is not placing an order. It's a reservation. Tesla has historically changed items for people after the reservation fee is placed and said that they have the customer ability to cancel or reject delivery.

Most notably:

Tesla removing mobile charger
Tesla removing passenger lumbar
and the biggest, Tesla removing Autopilot...people complained and threatened to sue in each case, but nothing seemed to change.

Tesla even removed to potential of Autopilot from Cybertruck owners even though they had the vehicle and it was stated on their original purchase (same with MS/X users and Steam back in 2022).

I don't suspect any malicious intent from Tesla for these but this is pure lack of a good marketing and legal team who can thoroughly review these promotions before they launch them. This could just be someone's oversight. They still operate like a start up in many ways. I really feel bad for customers who are impacted. This is 8K worth of a product they will now not get. Tesla should at least accept the mistake and reimburse.
It's reasonable to say it wasn't malicious intent on Tesla's part but rather just them being incompetent. Who should pay the price for the incompetence ... the buyer?

Many at Tesla have said that they changed the verbiage because of the massive amount of SAWD orders. These are Service and Sales employees (so they could be playing a bad game of telephone), but they were very vocal about it when it occurred.

Apples and oranges.
The 2019 hundred bucks was a fully refundable Reservation Fee. This $250 was non-refundable purchase deposit. I know this because I made one in Feb 2026.

IANAL but if you did sue, the court’s aim is to make you whole, which in this case would probably just be a refund of your $250 because that’s the loss you have suffered.

similar to if you ordered something online that was advertised as available but they decided not to fulfill your order for whatever reason, they’d just cancel and refund your money. You couldn’t force them to fulfill the order.

Yep, the 2019 deposit was a reservation. I chose not to get a refund of the original $100. Got it applied to the new order.

Not sure if you already answered this but when did your pre-delivery tasks unlock and allow you to move forward? My delivery is 10 days away and I find it odd that the steps haven't unlocked yet.

I'm not surprised, there is some fine print in there that says they can change the terms of the FSD Transfer anytime.

Things like this just smell of stealership antics. I least they don't corner you in the financing managers back office to try to screw you over on delivery day.

I got the message but when I clicked the button it gave an error message. I ended up just attaching my insurance proof to the Tesla chat message from one of the Tesla sales advisor via the app. That seem to work. After that the advisor sent the wiring instructions via the app.

No. I'm talking about the $250 non-refundable fee that Tesla has always had. I received a Model Y without passenger lumbar and they told me it was removed 2 weeks prior. I said it was part of the car when ordering and they said, "you didn't buy it, you just put an order fee. For this situation, Tesla will refund it if you don't want the car". Others were told they wouldn't refund it.

Also, they took away Autopilot from people who fully paid for their trucks. It was in development and then Tesla said they were no longer going to deliver it on the CT and gave owners with out FSD 1-year free instead.

This is standard.

Edit: There are multiple threads on TMC when Elon said no one used the mobile charger (even though it's the most used charging format according to teslafi and teslascope). It was listed on the order, people paid $250 for their vehicle, but it didn't come with the vehicle. It was actually a supply issue.

I have a VIN assigned. I was one of the early people that ordered on the 19th within about two hours of the news breaking on Twitter. The AI Chatbot says I am going to get delivery between the fifth and the 10th of this month. I'm in SoCal area.

My question is do you know if we get any perks like free supercharging for one month or free full self driving for three months anything like that?

Any idea if we can add official Tesla L-Tracks to our bed?

My other question is what kind of financing rates have you guys seen through Tesla? Navy Federal is advertising something along the lines of 4.6% APR, which in my opinion is pretty much the best out there. I have an 810 credit score on my CC apps and a little higher on Credit Karma. Perfect payment history and early payoff for life on all cars. Essentially perfect credit.

I have the ability to pay for about half of it upfront without impacting any of my financials but I'm thinking about just putting 12-18K down. Any advice in terms of how much I should put down? I have never bought a brand new car. I currently drive a legacy model X. I would just hate to have the car get totaled like two months after I get it and I've already put 30 grand down.
