Solar panels and battery to get unlimited range ...

To get straight to the point, not really. You could possibly cobble together something, but you’d probably be better off taking a diesel generator and 5 gallon fuel can. Solar is just not efficient enough yet and some of the numbers being thrown around here are wildly optimistic in the best case...

Solar panels and battery to get unlimited range ...

I wouldn’t say futile, I’d say future… distant future. PV panels aren’t efficient or large enough in vehicle applications to power mobility for most normal use cases.

Cybertruck range while towing is HORRIBLE!

It’s much more likely to be 10 years or more than it is 5 years. Even if a magic battery existed today in the lab, it will take time to productize and mass produce it for consumers.

Cybertruck range while towing is HORRIBLE!

?? this!!! ICE vehicles start at 20-30% efficiency, but each gallon of gas is like having a 30-40kWh battery. Now consider they are filled up with 25-35 gallons! That’s showing that fossil fuels are many times more energy dense than any commercially available battery technology. By contrast an...

Cybertruck range while towing is HORRIBLE!

I tried explaining to people in the other thread that CT, or any EV for that matter, will struggle with range while towing. Even if you double or triple the battery size, it’s still going to struggle! Compared to ICE, EVs don’t have much energy on board and thrive on efficiency. When you add...

Towing 28’ 7” RV trailer from San Antonio to Port Aransas and back.

It’s not that simple. Larger packs are a crutch because they add a very undesirable penalty, weight! Weight makes the vehicle less efficient, often bigger, and it increases wear and tear. Elon Musk has talked about being able to make a Model S with 600 miles by including a massive battery. Tesla...

Towing 28’ 7” RV trailer from San Antonio to Port Aransas and back.

I somewhat agree with this. I’d say SCs are an acceptable compromise vs bigger batteries. It would have been great to have the originally predicted 500 miles of range without the need for an extender in the bed of the truck. But in hindsight that was overly optimistic. I should have known better...

Towing 28’ 7” RV trailer from San Antonio to Port Aransas and back.

I agree that EVs are great! That’s why I’m on my 3rd Tesla and 300K miles in which is why I know what the limitations are. I AM NOT SAYING CT can’t tow. I AM SAYING CT can’t out perform most ICE vehicles In terms of range and convenience while towing. The reason for that is battery energy...

Towing 28’ 7” RV trailer from San Antonio to Port Aransas and back.

No, physics always wins. This isn’t an ICE vs EV thing. This is an issue of the limitations you’ll face when towing with the CT. First, no one outside of a test scenario is going to tow from 100-0% unless you want to get stranded. Also that Bowlus scenario is a best case with a trailer optimized...

Towing 28’ 7” RV trailer from San Antonio to Port Aransas and back.

CT isn’t going 205 miles with a trailer like that. ICE is just better overall for towing big heavy trailers. That’s probably going to be the way it is for a while. EVs batteries simply can’t compete with fossil fuels in terms of energy density. I wish it wasn’t so but That’s the truth.

Towing 28’ 7” RV trailer from San Antonio to Port Aransas and back.

33 gallons, at about 37kWh per gallon for diesel. However ICE is very inefficient so you only get about 30% of that for propulsion. My numbers are approximations. 33 * 37000 * .3 = ~375kWh. So when you take an CT EV with a 130kWh battery and half or quarter the efficiency due to drag and...

Towing 28’ 7” RV trailer from San Antonio to Port Aransas and back.

A Dodge Ram 1500 has the equivalent of a 375 kWh battery when you factor in fuel efficiency. So even if you half that due to drag from a trailer, it’s still like having almost 200 kWh! Compare that to the Cybertruck’s ~130 kWh battery. You can see that battery energy density would need to more...

Cybertruck Hit & Run Accident on Freeway 😔 Help ID This Mustang!

Bad idea, you are in an armed confrontation at that point. Vehicles are weapons. Not to mention other weapons. He did the right thing to let it go and seek help from the community, insurance, and law enforcement. a Cybertruck is replaceable, you are not.

Big Scratches on SS at Delivery

I had a tool mark on mine. I took it to the service center and they removed it for free. They also removed some stubborn material that was stuck to the door.

Side Mirror Delete Kit installed from CYBERTRUCKco today

No bueno. The driver can’t see the cameras from inside of the vehicle. There’s just no way around the requirement for side view mirrors if you want to comply with the law. I understand why some are doing this, but I’d rather not have to deal with the hassle of a fix it ticket. Or worse, a...

That’s too bad because the vehicle code specifically mentions side mirrors.

It looks cool but I’d be too worried about law enforcement. Side mirrors are required in CA.

FSD 12.5 Debut Expected Late June for Cybertruck!

I keep saying here for people to forget about AP on CT. It’s not simply ā€œIf they just add AP.ā€ AP is a completely different HW and SW architecture.
